Horrible!
I have gone to this location 5 times first to check it out. I found many of the employees had no idea what they were doing. There is one young man who works there who I could hear boasting his service hell, I would have thought he served 25 years from what he was saying. Thanks for his service but he clearly only served a few years and would be more commonly referred to as a "cherry boot" but the stories are surely to entertain and deceive the elderly Sarasota customers.
I am a Special Operations Veteran and Govt LEA for 23 years. As a result I have "Address Exempt" status legally granted by the State of Florida covered by Fl Statute for my families protection.
My address on everything from my drivers license to my auto registration is a PO Box. My voter ID card specifically says "Address Exempt FL Statute 741" It even goes to the extent that my DEED to my home if found in the country records will display my name only and the address and lot number is Redacted(Blacked out).
I am provided a identification from the Office of the Attorney General that specifically states the address must be accepted and if a physical address is required there is a physical address on the ID card for use. The only time I have ever needed to use the provided physical address is in a Federal Banking Institution and during all previous firearms purchases. On the ID is clearly states if you don't understand this contact their office and a number is provided. The manager at Shoot Straight could care less.
Well, the end result the Sarasota Store manager informed me he could not sell me a firearm unless I had a state ID with my physical address on it where "YOU SLEEP". He even said if the provided physical address was on my license if he looked it up on google and the address didn't exist he still can't sell a firearm. Under normal circumstances I would agree but clearly this is not a normal circumstance, All my identifications have been concealed for a reason legally by the Govt and NOTHING has my physical address on it and only someone intentionally trying to deny a sale for other reasons would state this. Felt discriminated against. But the more I thought about it what it comes down to is the manager is just a douche.
I purchase firearms from various dealers in town and have NEVER had any problems so long as I provide everything I am required to; my Conceal License, My Drivers License, and my Address Exempt ID Card. One time a dealer didn't know what to do so they contacted ATF and was told use the physical address that is provided not whats displayed on the license.
Now to put the icing on the cake I have purchased from the Ft Myers Shoot Straight location and no problem with this process
I contacted the local ATF in Tampa who transferred me to Ft Myers ATF Office that handles Sarasota County I spoke with a Female agent Kristy who deals with FLL Dealers and sales, i was told that, "If your legally address exempt that means your address exempt! if they don't understand that then it would make more sense to take your business elsewhere." I fully agree 100%
Loss of my business! Over the past two weeks I have made 2 firearms purchases at other dealers in town because Shoot Straights prices are very high. You may ask why did I want to buy something there.. simple, the weapon they had was a unique item that is out of stock everywhere. So I was going to end up paying approximately $115 more for the item. Not a problem!
So it is clear the Sarasota location has some serious issues.
PS Shoot-S online prices are different than their store prices and they will try and sell stuff for more so show them the price online and they will honor it.. and its clear they don't want to I was in Tampa a few days later and found that weapon I was looking for at their competitor "Shooters World" on Fletcher Ave. what an awesome store. They had exactly what I was looking for, it was $178 less and they had NO issue with my address exempt status and understood the procedure.

Read moreThis store & range is very close to where I live and work, and I drive past every single day. As a fairly new gun owner and a fan of the second amendment, I’ve long been curious about what lies inside. I realized that I needed some snap caps for my firearm (Ruger EC9s/9mm Luger) so I finally decided to stop in.
First of all, I was blown away by how well-stocked the store is. Their inventory is mind-boggling. They have everything! Firearms, accessories, and helpful, friendly associates. They are eager to help. Seriously, in the four or five times I’ve been in so far I’ve interacted with a number of different employees and everyone there has been way beyond great. Above and beyond! The customer service is five-star, and I am not hyperbolizing. There’s clearly a culture of very knowledgeable and helpful customer service here. They have consistently treated me like I’m important to them.
Secondly, I was quickly assisted in finding my snap caps and then proceeded to look around. As a newly-minted CWFL holder, I’d been lusting for a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield for quite a while, and guess what? They had brand-new 1.0 versions on sale for well under $300! Well-under!!! Practically Internet-cheap! I’m not one to casually make a snap decision purchase, and they had plenty in stock, so I thought about it for a day and then, of course, went back the next afternoon.
I was greeted at the door the next day and when I explained what I wanted, I was helped immediately. The sales associate was friendly and fun, and I bought my second firearm in less than ten minutes, paperwork and all. I then spent the next 45 minutes browsing around and at every station, I was met with a friendly face, happy to answer questions and help.
They have a truly amazing selection of pistols, shotguns, rifles, and any accessory or ammo you could ever want or need. Holsters and cases and safes, range bags, eyes & ears, cleaning kits and accoutrements, magazines for every single pistol ever made! Snap caps in every caliber. It’s truly a super-store! Plus their shooting range is really nice. I’ve shot there only one time so far, and I usually practice at a different range, but their facility is top-notch. I will be getting a membership.
This place appears to be the ULTIMATE shop in town for those of us who love and appreciate the second amendment, and you’ll even end up chatting with like-minded customers, if that’s your thing. Check them out. We’re lucky to have Shoot Straight...
Read moreAfter a failed attempt at a previous gun shop, and new to Sarasota from Phoenix, we stumbled upon Shoot Straight. Nice shop! I followed David greeted us at the front counter as we came in, very kind and informative. Are young lady at the back counter helped us as well, also very informative and helpful. The rest of the staff never ignore Lonestar presents, but I don’t suppose we really needed them to either. They have a shooting range there, which we didn’t use, but it was fairly busy and so I’m guessing it must be fairly popular. The staff seem a little loose in terms of running a safe range, but like I said, we weren’t inside the actual range itself. We were just looking through the gigantic plate glass window that gives us a view at, well, about the entire range. The selection of firearms was quite good. They also had a decent selection of accessories, mostly your run-of-the-mill stuff for AR’s, holsters, little bits and pieces you might find in most of the larger gun shops. While the service was Decent, and the selection was good, the pricing left a bit to be desired. Everything was overpriced to be honest. That being said, the impression I got from the people I spoke to behind the counter led me to believe that the management was more than happy to haggle, and a gun show coming up was a great place to intersect with the owner “I th decent, and the selection was good, the pricing left a bit to be desired. Everything was overpriced to be honest. That being said, the impression I got from the people I spoke to behind the counter led me to believe that the management was more than happy to haggle, and a gun show coming up was a great place to intersect with the staff to get better deals. All well and good, but how about a good deal I’m standing here today? How about a good deal on your price tag in the first place so we don’t even have to have this conversation? I’m sure I’ll put in the head again and they’re at some poin i’m sure I’ll Poke my head in there again at some point, but I’m...
