Read moreAbsolutely one of my favorite places in the entire world. The Marin headlands are incredibly beautiful with fantastic views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate, and Pacific Ocean. I recommend and take visitors here whenever I get a chance and it always blows them away.
Drive around the roads a bit and explore some of the WW2 fortifications as well as the beaches and animal shelter. Plenty of hiking as well as the Point Bonita lighthouse. The roads along the coast are just breathtaking. You won't regret the visit.
Note that they changed some of the access so you'll need to enter the area through the tunnel, although you can exit along the coast...
Read moreThe slacker trail and trail to the Golden Gate Bridge both start on fire roads which isn't our favorite form of hiking. We thought the Golden Gate Bridge trail led to views of the bridge but it leads you to the actual bridge so you can walk across it. Arguably that is how we should have interpreted the sign but a quick word of caution if you make the same mistake. When we saw where it was headed, we went to the Slacker trail that offers decent views of the bridge. Overall, great straight up cardio hike and decent view for the effort but not the best bridge view or best trail...
