Oh, this beach is just wonderful! The reviews and travel websites weren't kidding when they said its rarely crowded, and we even went on Memorial Day. Please be advised, however, it is a mile hike just to get down to the Coves Beach. It's a beautiful hike that I highly recommend, though, and you get two miles of walking in. If the mile hike down and back up is deterring you a little bit, you can go to the kirby Cove Campground website to purchase a parking permit and drive down kirby Cove Road. Be careful! It's a single lane road with many pedestrians walking it, and you have to open the gate initially to get down it. This beach has a beautiful view of Golden Gate Bridge, and you can see the large cruise and cargo ships come in and out of the bay. Please be advised that it does get really windy walking down there, and it can be difficult to find parking up near the vantage point due to people wanting pictures of the bridge. It's say it's definitely worth it, though, if you're looking for scenery without a...
Read moreKirby Cove is a hidden gem in plain sight. A tiny fraction of the people who visit the Golden Gate Bridge Overlook make their way down the short hike to enter the cove. The beach is practically empty, especially on weekdays. The last time I visited, I saw a total of 3 pairs of people over the span of 2 hours. There is plenty of space on the beautiful sand beach, as well as several historic concrete bunkers, little alcoves in the trees with picnic tables, camp sites, beautiful flowers, trees, and other flora and fauna. The best part of course, is the unparalleled view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco from outside the gate. Kirby Cove provides a peaceful, expansive, and excluded playground completely sheltered from the powerful winds that buffet the overlook above. All it will take is one popular TikTok or article about the cove for it to receive a huge surge of visitors, so visit it while you can enjoy it during these unusual...
Read moreLovely beach views of the Golden Gate and easy hike! Visited Saturday 3/5/22 at 7:30AM. Parked near "Ridge Battery" lot (not close to full. There's designated parking also along the roadside). 5 min walk to Golden Gate vista points and upper battery's. Hike itself took about 25-45 mins there/back. Can investigate Battery Wagner along the way. Easy, but non-shaded, packed dirt road trail until the bottom. Near the "day use areas" there were three restrooms but the only one open was closest to the beach. BEWARE POISON OAK as it's everywhere and stay on trails. Max of 5 people at any given time while we were on the beach. Beautiful looming trees and greenery near the beach including a patch of Calla Lilies. Golden Gate was glorious for pics. Ships and kayaks passed underneath with San Fran towers in the backdrop. Headed back to the car around 10:40AM and tons of people were...
