Part1: 2/06/2021: With the exception of one very nice older gentleman, the rest of the staff behind the firearms sales counter and especially the firearms cashier are just plain rude and condescending. Iâm an avid law abiding gun enthusiast. I purchase guns frequently, from multiple gun dealers, never have I had an issue. I went to Cabellaâs in Scarborough Maine today to purchase a shotgun, here are the details of my visit: 9:30am: After picking out the shotgun I wanted, I started filling out the âElectronicâ background check that Cabellaâs use on a lap top computer. Half way into the process, the computer locks up and stops working. At this point there are 3 people trying to figure out how to get it working again, to no avail. 10:00am: I am told we will have to wait until someone comes in at 10:30 that has authority to reset the system. I was understanding about this, stuff happens. I did a little more shopping around the store and came back to the counter at 10:30 but the lady we were waiting for had still not arrived. There was a very pleasant older gentleman though behind the counter who said âoh, let me see if I can help.â 2 minutes later he had the program up and running again, and I was able to complete the background check form. Now... at least 3 people checked and double checked that everything was completed properly and all agreed we were good to go. They sent the background check in, and within 5 minutes it came back approved. 11:00am (ish) Iâm told the cashier is ready for me to check out so I go to the firearms cashier counter. There is an older lady getting ready to check us out. She was double checking the serial numbers and such on the gun, and looking the paperwork over. Then...she notices that the street name on my License is spelled âPenny Road,â and on the background check paperwork I spelled it âPenney Road.â She asked me about it and I explained that yeah the dmv typoed the street name on my license and left out the âe.â Now bear in mind I have bought several guns the last few months from various gun dealers in the state, and at no time has this ever been an issue. However, the cashier tells me she cannot sell this firearm to me unless I can âproveâ my actual address. I said but I have never had an issue. At this point it starts to become quite clear this lady doesnât really care about trying to help, she even starts to become rude and sarcastic. She says â Well hopefully those other shops where you bought firearms donât loose their licenses!â She spells out a list of things I can present to âproveâ where I live, none of which I had with me. At this point I feel like Iâm being looked at as if Iâm trying to âpullâ something. So frustrated at this point after wasting 1.5 hours trying to buy this gun, I told them I no longer wanted it and left. When I got to the car it occurred to me that I had proof of my address. I have âinformed delivery â through the US Post office where pictures of my mail are sent to me every day. So I went back in and showed the lady the scans of my mail, all addressed to the âPenneyâ Road address. She said nope, I need a piece of paper from the list of acceptable documents. Again, she was rude and acted as if I was trying to pull something. So apparently mail addressed to me, sent to me by the USPS post office, one letter I showed her was from the US Social Security Office, all addressed to the address I put on my application, still not proof that the DMV left out a letter on my driver license? Really??? So by this time I am done, and I go home. This is part 1 of this review and Have reached the character limit. Donât waste your time in the store. Big Fail Cabellaâs!! Iâm out of room,...
Read moreBought a firearm online and it was my first time purchasing a weapon. I have fired MANY different weapons but NEVER purchased one on my own but I found what I was looking for so I bought it here. I called after the purchase to find out when I could go and get the background check done, seeing how it takes 72hrs to get it done, I wanted to know if I could go down and do it right away! I quote, "you can come down any time to fill that out"! Keep in mind I live an hour 15mins away. So I go down, thinking nothing of it and this very cocky sales person TELLS me insincerely, that they're "sorry" but the weapon has to be there for me to complete that form. Well that makes sense right, I didn't have a problem with that, I DID have a problem with NOT KNOWING this before I drove all the way down there for NOTHING! So I drove allll the way back, waited and it finally came in, so I went down AGAIN, and the SAME sale person, God help me, assisted me in getting the paperwork done. As he handed the weapon to me, he never asked me if I had any questions about the purchase or procedures NADDA. I asked if they had any lockable, decently priced cases, he said yup, I'm sure we do, never showed me where or NOTHING, didn't offer to help me with different ammo that would be a good fit NOTHING! Anyway I left and was TOLD to wait 72hours and was also told in a snotty manner that you can't show up a minute sooner, I'm like okayyyyy, I mean I get it but damn dude, you are not my better, so chill on the condensing attitude, anyway, I left and went back, with my hubby this time, I told him how I was treated so he wanted to go with me to pick it up. Get there and took them like 35mins just to complete the paperwork, I get it, I do, they want to cross all their T's and dot their I's, and they had a full staff. We had the SAME conceited sales boy, but the difference was AMAZING, he apologize for the wait, he asked if we needed any ammo ect and I flat out told him that if I were to NEED anything further, "I" will be going elsewhere. I will NEVER, EVER buy another weapon there again! The stigma women go through is real, and if you don't believe it reread this again. I am very offended. This was MY experience, and I hope women get a heads up before buying from this company. Remember, this was my VERY FIRST TIME buying any weapon! Being courteous doesn't cost anything and if you're going to be in sales, EVERYONE should be treated the same! Keep in mind that i spent about $1,700 on this weapon as well. NEVER...
Read moreWe've always loved this store! We make it an annual trip and usually spend 2+ hrs in there and spend a good amount of money every time. Today we entered without masks like many others and nobody stopped us or even said a word. Plus we had called a couple days prior to ask what their policies were & was told they request them, but couldn't force you and that they don't force people to leave which is the story at most places. Then a while into our shopping an employee that was at the fly fishing desk area literally was rude and said we needed masks or needed to leave. My hubby said fine we'll leave. We proceeded the route we were going and a few mins later this guy had tracked us down to again say we needed to leave. We told him we needed to track down the kids (teens) and we'd be leaving. Continued around the outskirts of the store headed towards the front to checkout (which really they're lucky we didn't just leave and buy nothing) and this same guy confronted us a 3rd time and again extremely rude said we couldn't stay in the store without masks. I had asked if he was going to kick out all the other people that also weren't wearing them and he said he was making his rounds. I also informed him of the call we had made to ask about the masks before driving almost 3 hrs each way to go there... at this point he basically called me a liar and said nobody there would've told us that. My 16 yr old daughter was the one that made that call. At this point... I was furious and wanted to get ugly with this man, but kept my cool. He was so ignorant that a woman next to us actually apologized to me for his bad behavior. Definitely won't be going back any time soon... or at least until this bs is over and stuff is normal again. Oh and even after we opted to put masks on to finish getting what we wanted... there were still a ton of people walking around without them. I fully feel this guy singled us out for whatever reason and if I had gotten his name I'd be filing a...
