wow, what an experience! We had Dan as a caddie and he went above and beyond, helping us with strategy and technique for hitting out of the unique deep rough and also the local sand. The course was immaculate and gorgeous. We played from the blacks but tees weren't on the championship tee box (save for one hole with a big water carry), so it played around 7000 or so. Greens were fast but manageable.
I was skeptical of the price but it is definitely a bucket list course. Don't be intimidated by the listed course and slope rating: I shot a 77 with 34 putts and am a 6 cap. The fairways are wide and the greens fairly big too: if you are accurate off of the tee and especially if you can accurately hit a driver fade or draw to avoid traps, you are going to make more pars than bogeys. Here, 265 and in the fairway beats 300 and who knows where, as the rough is thick and you don't want to be hitting next to a cactus in the desert.
It would be fun to come back and play the championship tees at some point. They are long-we tour tees from one hole, I hit my drive about 90% as well as I could have, and still had a full 6-iron into the green. Best par of my life! I think the normal blacks were 435 and the tour tees 480? Huge difference-it shows you what those guys can do when you are hitting 6-iron and they only have a 9-iron on the same hole. You can't play the tees this time of year though due to WM prep.
It is a course that you will always remember playing. Honestly, the $6,900 "locals pass" for a year sounds like a pretty incredible deal. You won't get the "country club experience" but imagine playing this a couple of times a week!
One other thing; here and at Champions, you see tons of legit golfers. it is great. Sure, a few hacks, but the majority of people are playing to a low single digit cap. Getting paired with good golfers certainly...
Read moreI played at TPC last week with my boyfriend while we were in town for the Fiesta Bowl. Our experience there was fantastic except for one part- we tried to get drinks before our round from the bar (we are both 23), and they denied my boyfriend a drink because his ID is vertical. We are from Texas, and you can be over 21 and still have a vertical ID. We talked to the guys in the pro shop, and they were very surprised this was happening, so they got the restaurant manager, Jewel, to talk to us. Jewel explained they could not serve my boyfriend because of liability to TPC. We explained that we are over 21 (shown on his valid drivers license), Ubered to the course, and just wanted a couple of drinks during our round. He still refused to serve him. Moments later, I walked back into the bar area and overheard 3 of the ladies who work in the TPC bar talking about us- this had me very angry because that is SO unprofessional! At the end of the day, having a drink was not going to make or break our golf round, but we paid a lot of money to be there. Something needs to change with the policies about ID’s here. If we can get through airport security and got served at every other place we went in Scottsdale, then why couldn’t we get a...
Read moreA beginner in golf playing in a place like this is definitely not recommended. Unless one likes to challenge themselves, play for the purpose of playing in a TPC course (that is the sister course to the Waste Management PGA open), and/or just loves to watch the PGA and is willing to playing in a course alike the pros. I am a beginner in golf who does not have the accuracy nor consistency to play in this course. There are four tees provided for one's convenience. Played the red tee and still had a hard time playing. However, one of the workers in TPC, Buzz, has been so helpful to provide tips and tricks to prove one's golfing skills. Throughout the 18 holes, Buzz and a few other workers in the TPC management have been courteous to support one's learning curve struggles. They are willing to give a person advice to improve or would motivate them to continue playing. Overall, the course was challenging and nice to play in. The management was always nice and encourages anyone to play, even if you are a beginner in golf, they are willing to help you and support you to being a better player. Thank you so much TPC Management,...
