A One-of-a-Kind Market with Character

Upon entering Schiff's, you're immediately struck by the lively atmosphere characteristic of a bustling marketplace. It’s evident from the myriad of reviews that Schiff's has cemented itself as a community cornerstone, especially known for its impressive selection of meats and deli offerings.

As someone who appreciates the nuances of food quality and customer service, I can’t help but commend Schiff’s for their consistent quality in meat products. Whether you're looking for bulk family packages or specialty cuts, Schiff’s seems to have it all. The butchers are willing to slice to your preference, a service that harks back to a more personal era of food retail.

The deli and hot food sections are nothing short of a treat. Frequent patrons often rave about the freshness of the hot deli and bakery items. From the chocolate cream pies that tease the palate with decadence to the succulent garlic chicken, it’s clear why the community keeps coming back. The ready-made meals and sides, although a hit or miss on rare occasions, generally uphold the standards one would expect from a reputed store.

Staff interactions appear to paint a portrait of warmth, with employees making customers feel like part of the Schiff's family. This sense of belonging is a rarity in today's retail environment and should not go unappreciated.

However, every rose has its thorn, and Schiff's is no exception. While the quality of food is typically praised, pricing and customer service experiences have been inconsistent. Some have voiced concerns about the store being on the pricier side, and encounters with less-than-cheerful staff have been noted, though they seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

The store layout, described as "kinda tight quarters," may contribute to the frenetic energy, especially during peak hours. It's a reflection of Schiff's as a space that many seek out, despite its spatial constraints. Additionally, there have been isolated instances of concerns over food safety and presentation, such as unwrapped meats that require attention.

For those seeking a curated shopping experience, Schiff’s may come across as a bit chaotic, but it’s this very trait that imbues the market with its unique charm. It's a place where the search for the perfect cut of meat or the freshest baked goods can turn into a social event.

In summary, Schiff’s offers a rich tapestry of fresh foods, personable service, and community feel. While it may benefit from attention to customer service consistency and food presentation, these are overshadowed by the positive experiences of many loyal customers. For a newcomer or a regular, Schiff’s promises an experience that is both gratifying and, in some small...

This establishment has experienced a notable decline in quality and professionalism in recent years, particularly following a change in ownership. What was once a well-regarded local business has unfortunately become a place marked by a concerning lack of both customer service and basic food safety standards.

Just three days ago, I purchased a package of chicken tenderloins with a clearly marked sell-by date of today. Upon opening it, my wife was immediately overwhelmed by the odor—so much so that she began vomiting. The product was unmistakably spoiled. When I called the store to inform them, I expected a measure of concern and accountability. Instead, I was met with a request that I return the spoiled chicken, unbelievably in the kitchen garbage bag it was now in, so that they could “smell it for themselves.”

Let’s be clear: asking a customer to transport a used kitchen garbage bag - containing rotting meat amongst other things - through your store, past your “fresh” produce section, and place it on your counter where others place their groceries is not only offensive, it’s a blatant violation of any reasonable food safety standard. The lack of discretion, common sense, and courtesy is absolutely astonishing.

Over what amounts to a $12 purchase, you’ve not only lost a customer—you’ve demonstrated exactly why long-standing patrons are walking away. The product quality is inconsistent, the attitude of many employees borders on indifferent or outright rude, and the once high standards this market was known for are clearly no longer being upheld.

I will be returning the chicken tomorrow and will follow up accordingly. But make no mistake: this wasn’t about the $12. This was about dignity, decency, and basic respect for the people keeping your lights on. And judging by your response, you’ve...

To Whom It May Concern, I’m writing to express my disappointment with how I was treated during a recent visit to your store. I brought my 6-month-old service dog in training, who briefly barked in response to the automatic doors. He is not aggressive at all—he’s a very friendly and well-mannered puppy, just still learning. I’ve been in your store multiple times before with him and have never had a problem. Your staff has always been respectful and understanding, which I truly appreciate. That’s why it was so upsetting to be told to leave this time without being given a chance to correct or calm him.He was not out of control, just startled, and stopped barking as soon as we stepped outside. I then had to wait outside in 90-degree, humid weather while my family finished shopping, which was extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. Under Pennsylvania law, service dogs in training are protected and allowed in public spaces. I hope that your staff will be more aware of these rights and handle situations like this with more patience and respect in the future. I’d be happy to answer any questions or provide...

I spent $133 in total here today. The problem i had was with the chicken tenderloins i got for $22.52. As soon as i got home i opened the pack and i immediately smelled sulfur. Brought it back they called the meat supervisor over all he did was smell the chicken with a mask on. I asked him if he could smell the sulfur he nodded yes and said "something spilled on top of the packaging and thats why the chicken that was in CLOSED packaging smelled the way it did i then asked so it was spilled onto the chicken and then packaged? Because something spilling on a closed package of chicken should not affect the chickens sent or quality. He then looked at me rolled his eyes and said no it was spilled on top. Which makes zero sense at all. He then proceeded to say nothing is wrong with the chicken and left with the bad smelling chicken to then probably repackage it. Thats completely unprofessional and disgusting bad chicken is nothing to play with and this is how people easily go out buisness. BE CAREFUL IF YOU SHOP HERE THE MEAT MANAGER DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY.

My parents have shopped at Schiffs on Main Ave since I was a small girl, from there it seemed to be a family ritual to shop there for our meats. Larger quantities with better quality cuts. Over the past several years their value & quality is depreciating rapidly! The prices keep rising drastically as they skimp & cut corners everywhere they can. Here's a great example, no meat pasta salad... the sign should read pasta, onion & basil salad since there's nothing else added! No olives, tomatoes, nor cubed cheese plus barely any seasoning. It's such a shame whats becoming of these long time businesses that don't thr drive to stay committed to their reputation.
