My roomate and I went to Healthy Foot Spa on Thursday May 20, 2021 to get a full body massage. We were checked in by 2 people, who seemed older and then each one of us entered a separate room to then have our massages. After 5 minutes in the room, without any prior notice or consent, the lady who was initially doing my massage switched to another person, he was also Asian but a lot younger than the man who had done the check in. They both kept talking in a different language, so I couldn't really understand what was going on.

This guy, who was about 5'8, Asian, with short black hair, inappropriately and without my consent touched my body several times while massaging me: lowered my underwear to massage my butt, touched my private parts uncountable times while massaging the inside of my thighs, asked me to open my legs wide open to massage the outside of my thighs (completely unusual to me), removed my underwear sideways to see my private parts while my legs were opened. While I felt completely uncomfortable and knew that was wrong I was frozen and couldn't speak up for myself at that time.

After the massage, I talked with a friend about it and decided I would go back and try to get the name of this practitioner that performed my massage.

On May 26, 2020, around 5:30pm my roomate and I went back and talked to the lady at the front desk, which was the same person who checked us in and started my massage on May 20.

There was a big language barrier, which we did notice on May 20, but didn't realize it was so huge. The lady, who said to speak Chinese, couldn't understand us or speak in English and used a phone translator to communicate with us the whole time.

She initially refused to give the name of the guy that performed my massage claiming that she doesn't know him and that he was only there that afternoon, and had come in after responding to an online ad she had posted looking for a massage practitioner. However, after a few minutes she said his name was "Touang" (not sure of the spelling).

After I mentioned what had happened to me, the lady apologized and affirmed she was peeking during my massage and saw when the guy was acting unprofessional. She claims that after he finished my massage she asked him to leave and never come back. And since then she doesn't have any information about him.

Normally I don't post negative reviews, but this was by far the worse massage I've ever had. And not just a bad massage but the whole experience was bad. I honestly don’t understand how they have so many 5-star reviews. In a nutshell - not relaxing, nor therapeutic, very painful, my masseuse was clearly not professionally trained, left in worse shape than when I arrived.

The massage rooms are sparse, no low lighting, no pleasant exotic scents, chilly. The massage oil came from a big plastic jug. The lobby music was the only music and wasn’t turned up nearly loud enough to drown out the annoying ding and “Welcome to Healthy Foot Spa!” announcement triggered every time someone entered the spa, and repetitively if that person didn’t move away from the doorway. The most disturbing thing is that every time someone entered the lobby my masseuse would leave the room to greet that person and leave the door ajar with me lying half covered on the massage table. The massage room doors open directly into the small lobby so visualize that for a moment. At best, unprofessional. At worst, reportable.

As for the massage, even without the language barrier, it was terrible. There's no way my masseuse had any formal training. She was under the misguided impression that a painfully deep massage is a good massage. I must have said "Not so hard!" a dozen times. I repeatedly asked her to rub more slowly so that I could try to relax and allow knots to release, but she didn't understand my words and, from what I could tell, wasn't trained to feel knots because she never paused to work on them. In effect, she flared up every knot in my back without releasing any of them. All I could do was tense my muscles to minimize the pain. She never had me turn over, never got to my neck or shoulders, which is what I’d initially asked her to focus on. Fortunate, as it turns out because it's been nearly a week and my back muscles are still tender. In hindsight, I should have left mid-massage.

Oh, and at the end of the massage they ask you to check a box on your paper receipt to add a tip. There are three options: 30%, 40% and 50% tip!...

I genuinely praised your massages and even recommended you to many of my friends, but it’s appalling that you would resort to such unethical tactics to deceive others. The example you gave in your reply does not involve me in any way. While losing me as a customer may not matter to you, I doubt a business built on dishonesty will last long. The irony is that you blocked my number afterward, which only reinforces the truth of the situation.
