I was riding in the truck with my son earlier this week on Tuesday, and I asked my son to call for an order since I was driving. The first question my son asked was whether we could receive curbside service. The answer was yes. So, after several call transfers over ten minutes to find the correct salesperson, an order was assembled. We asked to pay by phone and pickup curbside. To our astonishment, my son was told that he had to hang up and go online to place the order to receive curbside. Why were we not told this from the beginning? My son explained that we were in our vehicle, and at this point a short distance away (less than a mile). Still, we were told to shop online. Having over 30 years of retail experience and having attended countless professional retail trainings, I could not believe my ears! Retail 101 tells sales professionals to accommodate the customer and not risk losing them. If they leave before a sale is made, it is likely they will not return. So, I had my son dial back and ask for the sales manager, whom I spoke to on speaker phone. I asked him if he would accept some constructive feedback from a fellow retail professional. I figured he would want to know what happened and work to improve the customer experience in his store. I believe he said his name was Steve, and when I asked to confirm that he was sales manager, he stumbled as if he did not want to admit it. And despite saying yes to my request to provide feedback, he could have cared less. He made no explanation, no concession, no apology, no effort to welcome me back, no real reaction of any kind other than to tell me that it was just the way it was. Wow. I told him candidly what I thought about the curbside policy, but more importantly that he had indeed lost a customer. I drove right past his store location and then drove another 14 miles out of my way to shop at a...
Read moreThis was my first time going to Ace Hardware and will most likely be my last unfortunately. I’m repainting some patio furniture and needed a wire brush and spray paint. Rather than hit the localLowes or Home Depot I thought I’d give Ace a shot. Store seemed nice and I quickly found a really nice plastic wire brush\scrapper for 5 bucks and was impressed. I then found the spray paint and although I wanted to try the textured RustOleum paint I went with the regular stuff because it was $6.99 a can and the textured was $8.49 I believe. I get to the register and the paint rings up for $8.59! So I told the girl that the paint was priced at $6.99 and she said those are probably old tags and handed me my purchase. Nothing else. I was going to say forget it and return it or ask for a manager but I just said well maybe you should take the old price tags down. Still no response. Hopefully this review will cost them more than the difference in price! No good deed right? Gave two stars for the...
Read moreNormally I would give 5 stars. The staff is helpful and I get everything I need without any fuss. Salks is my go to place for hardware. On a previous visit a Salks employee acknowledged that they had received a defective batch of leaf bags and said that I could return mine on my next visit. Today I returned to exchange the defective leaf bags. The cashier needed to call the manager who, when approaching the register, did not acknowledge my presence nor was there any eye contact. She began to work up a refund and told me that they wouldnt accept partial sets. I said I just wanted to exchange them for good ones. The manager snapped and said that "she didn't like my attitude". I'm not sure what she meant but her rudness and lack of professionalism took me aback. This is an excellent a training opportunity for this individual (I'm looking at...
