I love this place! Their selection is unreal and 90% of the staff are extremely knowledgable; in reference to another person's review, yes some of the staff are teenagers and can't answer more than basic questions, however I think their jobs are usually related to stocking and keeping things clean and organized. Also even though they aren't experts, they are always friendly and more than willing to find someone who can help if they're unable to. Generally if you walk 10 yards in any direction then there's a good chance you'll run into someone more senior who can not only answer questions but make excellent suggestions.
I'm very much a gardening novice so sometimes when I walk in there I plan to purchase one thing and then once I get to talking to someone they help me to realize that what I thought I wanted isn't actually a wise choice and are able to provide me with tons of suggestions that are more suitable for what it is I'm trying to achieve.
Last year I was too embarrassed to admit I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and while the flowers I planted ended up being beautiful, my garden looked completely disorganized as if it had been planted by a 3rd grader. Now when I walk in I basically just say "help me, I have no idea what I'm doing," and while I'm sure it will still be several years before my garden looks anything more than amateur, I feel confident that both myself and my garden will continue to improve the longer I work at it.
It's true that the prices are a bit higher than a chain home improvement store, but the quality of the products as well as the excellent customer service make it well worth it. I still buy a lot of the basic necessities elsewhere, like potting soil and planters, but even shopping for that stuff at the chain stores can feel extremely frustrating once you've become accustomed to working with the staff at Family Tree.
My ONE major issue with Family Tree are their hours. Evenings are typically the only time I'm able to do any sort of shopping due to my work schedule, and while closing at 7:00 pm during the fall and winter would be more than understandable, I wish they would stay open an hour or two later during the spring and summer. Also they are only open 10:30-5:30 on Sundays, and with that being the one day I'm usually able to get out in the yard, the limited hours make things a bit...
Read moreI have been coming here for years and always had great experiences. I come here for the plants and the environment. It’s a great place to hang out or catch up with a friend.
Today I went to help my sister find some plants for her new place, and we have little planting experience / knowledge. We told Dee (hopefully I spelled that right) about our situation and asked for the best advice. At any other company or store, we might receive some good information and lucky to get exactly what we needed. Dee did 100 times more than any of that. He explained everything from what soil we needed to what direction the sun would come from. Never felt like he was trying to slip away or give quick answers to get back to something else. He was so passionate about it that everything was answered way better than we could’ve ever gotten elsewhere. He remained very professional the whole time and never made us feel less than him. After a while of him taking us to get the supplies we needed across sections of the store, he brought us to Kylie. (Hopefully spelled that right too)
Kylie helped us find the outdoor plants we needed and gave us all the same care that Dee did. She explained everything from the type of plant to the 3 main types of plants to get in order to stage the Flower bed professionally. She took a ton of time to explain how it works and walked through the whole garden as we picked out the plants. Truly an amazing experience and we’re so glad we came here for this.
This is the type of service every industry should strive for, but unfortunately, it’s hard to find. These people are building relationships and genuinely care about their customers.
Though the cost can feel a bit high at times, I wanted this review to highlight the employees and their...
Read moreOUTSTANDING, -REALLY!!!!
Once again, this season , they had MANY new varieties to buy for our area. Notice I say for 'our area'. They do not sell stuff like Walmart, Home Depot, etc, that DOES NOT GROW HERE, or is invasive.
Been going there for 2 generations of gardeners.
They have the BEST customer service-always lots of people asking you if they can help while you are there..I also call them and get great help on the phone.
Even great in winter to visit! Like a botanical gardens! They also have so many other services, hard to find supplies, live fish ponds you can feed in winter, have a yr. round calendar of events, -need to list on their website all the cool stuff they do! Love their ladies night!
I was there in winter and saw them setting up amazing tropical greenhouse in wedding in winter. Said it was their first-can't say they do this still?
They have people there that REALLY know their stuff-educated that have saved many plants/trees.
Told me how to save orchid collection, fruit trees, I.D. ANY problem you have with a plant!
And, if somebody does not know, they immediately get on radio/phone to know right person.
PLUS, want to say, their prices used to be higher, but was worth it for different varieties. Now, the big box stores like Walmart/Home Depot are selling even higher sometimes, and not as healthy and cared for on a daily basis by...
