I'm not one to write bad reviews, but I had one of the worst customer service experiences that I've ever had at this store.
I was looking to build a new computer for streaming low spec games, so my boyfriend and I went to PC Gold for the parts - I could have gotten them much cheaper online, but we wanted to support a local business and he has gone there for years. We went in and gave my price range (around $1500 without monitors or taxes). The woman there said it wouldn't be possible to build one for that price. I knew that wasn't accurate, so we asked another worker, who grabbed the pieces that would fit that budget from their store, and those worked for what I wanted, so I paid for those and a small secondary monitor from their used section. As they were packing things up, we asked if we needed to buy cords for the used monitor. They said no, the cords were included.
I got home and assembled the computer, but there were no cords for the monitor. Not an issue - they were busy that day, so I figured they just forgot to put them in the bag.
We went back the next work day and explained that the monitor didn't have cords. The man there stated that he was 90% sure he put an HDMI cord in the motherboard box (note, this monitor didn't have an HDMI port). We said that it hadn't been in there - only a copy of Windows and the SSD. The woman who works there came into the conversation and with a very rude tone, said that she remembered putting the power cord in the box, and she remembered the man saying he'd put a cord in, so they were in there. We explained again that they had not been in the box, but they continued arguing, finally offering the solution that we could buy new cords from them and return them when I found the cords. I didn't want to buy two cords I should have already had, so I said we would go home and double check.
We went home, looked through everything vaguely near where I set up the computer, and even pulled apart the empty boxes to make sure the cords hadn't gotten stuck in one. There were no cords, so the next day we went back and explained the situation again. This time, the man claimed that both he and the woman had 100% remembered seeing both cords in the box, so he was sure I lost them in my work area. We explained that we had cleaned up my entire work area and they were nowhere to be seen. He then guessed that they had fallen out in my car (for that to have happened, the motherboard box would have had to have opened, had just the cords fall out without the bag tipping, and then somehow managed to close itself again). He suggested again that I buy more cords since I wasn't able to locate mine. Had they said at the beginning that we needed to buy the cords, I happily would have, but at this point, I was incredibly frustrated at their generally rude attitudes and refusal to address the issue of me not having actually received the cords. So instead, I returned the monitor because I had lost all interest in working with them.
I always prefer to shop local when I can, but I will definitely be skipping this place...
Read moreMy computer was having troubles that I blamed on the Power Supply. Luckily, upon bringing my PC to PC Gold, they were able to identify the problem. Upon getting my computer back with the newly installed power supply I noticed something wierd. The light on my fans did not glow & after opening up my computer I noticed the fans had not been plugged back in, overheating my PC & causing it to crash minutes after booting back up. My computer now makes a buzzing noise and crashes whenever I have it on for more than 4 hours. They fixed the current problem my PC had for sure, but not plugging in the fans, not checking the thermal paste, or seeing if there were any other problems with the PC was just lazy. If you have a simple problem, they may be able to help, however, they do not have the talent or skill to investigate every problem in a PC and make you aware of this after their "fix" is complete. The life of my PC has degraded 2 fold after taking it to them for simple things that should have been addresed upon testing my computer for problems. This team is not a professional team. They can maybe help if a computer seems to be an alien technology you could never hope to understand, however, as a man who has built computers himself it's dissapointing to see "professionals" solve a simple problem & leave so many checks and balances overlooked. I'm sure they've helped plenty of people beyond the age of computers retain their decade old PC's, but for someone of the modern age seeking help with problems, this company is just too behind the times to truly be of any help. This review is for the young people who "know a thing or two about computers" to make a healthier descion for their hobby. DON'T GO HERE, they will do 15% of what you are paying them to do. If you don't know how to fix it yourself, then God...
Read moreFirst, I should state that PC Gold did complete the job I asked them to do. However, both of my PCs they worked on had issues with their fans afterward. One fan was removed and not replaced. When I asked about it, the tech told me it was no big deal, but it was, and my computer ran very hot. The other PC had a processor fan that was very loud due to being worn. This fan was neither replaced nor mentioned as an issue to me, but it was a problem. In short, I had to take both computers to another professional who fixed the mistakes PC Gold made after he saw the poor work and lack of care.
I paid around $700 for all the work done at PC Gold, and I will not be going back there again. I tried calling them and explained the issue, and I was told the tech was out of the office, but they would get back to me, which they never did. If you need hardware changed or replaced, PC Gold is good for that, but the lack of communication and care is a huge dealbreaker for me. Had I not paid attention, I might have ended up with a fried computer from overheating.
I had no issue with the price; my only issue was the lack of communication between employees and customers, as well as the lack of care in follow-ups and ensuring there would be no issues when fans were removed. If you speak to a tech and then go back or call later and get someone else, that person will have no clue what's going on. If you pick up a computer that is finished and have questions, if the tech is not there, the person you speak to will not know what's going on due to the lack of...
