Most locals won't agree I'm sure, but I'm spoiled by the Big E. Ticket prices were on par with the Big E too, so it's not an unfair comparison either. My 7yr old son could only ride 4 rides in the whole place, he was either too tall or not old enough, which made the $25 ride wrist band worthless. The food prices were laughably stupid ($10 for fried dough, $12 for fries, $6 for a corn dog, etc.), pretty much the same 5 food items everywhere. Kens restaurant was easily the best bang for your buck. There were like 6 or 7 games, all the same price ($10/play), all with weak claw machine prizes. The fair opened at 8am, but no rides or games til noon, so we wasted 4 hrs only to find out, again, my son couldn't enjoy any rides. Tons of chickens and rabbits for sale, but no petting zoo or many animals to actually look at. Destruction Derby didn't start til late, which by then, we had left, but there was no signage indicating that event was even happening. The Big E has a circus, dozens of rides, the individual New England house buildings, concerts, petting zoo, better living center, SO MANY different food items, AND a 2x a night parade, plus much more, and all of this is nightly. I swear, I never thought I'd miss the Big E, or have thought I took it for granted, but this fair was so far beyond disappointing. It made me want to just take vacation time every yr, drive the 5hrs, stay a few days, and go to MA...
Read moreThis was my first and last trip to the skowhegan State Fair. We ended up leaving earlier than planned. My kids wanted some chicken fingers to eat, and it was $10 for the chicken or $15 for the chicken finger basket. They didn't really want the fries, so I just ordered the fingers. For $10, I figured I would get 5 or 6 of them, and the 3 girls could each have a couple. Well, I only got 3 fingers, and they were smaller than my pinky. They honestly could have been called nuggets instead. Most of the food was extremely overpriced. The event that caused us to leave early was my 13 year old, and her friend went to go on a ride while her sisters and I had a bite to eat. She came running back crying and traumatized after a young male assaulted a much older male, split his head wide open, and knocked him unconscious. There was an extreme amount of blood all over. The wife who called the police said they were not from the area and had no idea who it was or why. I know it is a small maine town, but you would think that they would have had at least one officer walking around as a deterrent or available in such an event that let's face it happens far too often these days. My daughter truly thought this man was dead and afraid for her own safety. So I do not recommend ever visiting the...
Read moreThe prices are to high both admission and wrist band prices are way to high for a family. There are no attractions to draw people in. There are many days that there is no people there. Plus you need to get motorized cart for seniors that can't walk that well. Fryrburg has them and they really help. I don't think I would spend the money to go to the fair another year. Wristband for a family of 4 is 100 bucks plus admission. Then if the kids want food there goes another 75 to 100 bucks. Then games are expensive. 11 bucks for a dough boy seriously you cant get anything to eat for less than 10 bucks. This is not a family thing any more. Money if hard to come by people arw having a hard time paying bills buying food. Many people will not pay bills to take the kids to the fair. You need to seriously drop your prices on everything. Make it s good family time again. Maybe if the prices are lower you will get a lot more people. Yes dollar days are great not everyone can go on dollar days. Think of the families. Yes I know you have bills to pay also but I know you can afford to lower your prices and still...
