We moved to Cedar a few years ago with our young kids and while I absolutely love the privilege of living in Leelanau County, I do always take pause driving through our tiny little town - which mainly consists of a tavern and a gas station - and think about how I wish we had just a little more here to stop for. Enter The Folded Leaf. From the first time I walked through their doors about a month ago I just felt really grateful that some locals took a chance on this old rural building and breathed some much needed life and liveliness into it. It is a beautiful little shop, eclectic and fun and cozy with an awesome concept of combining new books with a curated used selection. I love how they partner with the business on the lower level, Bee Well to offer children's books in their space. They have done so much in such a short amount of time in their space, and it's heartwarming to see. Just the other night we stopped for some ice cream at Blue Moon and the picnic tables in front of The Folded Leaf were full, music was spilling out of open doors and windows, and people from truly all walks of life were gathered around sharing food and drinks. This sort of joyful camaraderie, everyone is welcome, small town Saturday night vibe is exactly the way I want my kids to remember their hometown. So proud of these business owners and so glad to have our own little independent...

The Folded Leaf is one of those rare places that feels like a well-kept secret and a warm welcome all at once. Tucked away in charming Cedar, it blends art, design, and community into a beautifully curated space thatās impossible not to fall in love with.
From the moment you walk in, youāre struck by the calm and inspiring atmosphere. Every corner of the shop tells a story, with handmade goods, thoughtfully chosen homewares, and local art that celebrates both craftsmanship and creativity. Itās a haven for those who appreciate quality over quantity and the kind of place where you discover something new and meaningful with each visit.
Rachel and Kim clearly care deeply about what theyāre creating, and it showsānot just in the products, but in the conversations, the music, the events, and the community they foster.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve known Rachel for a number of years and am very impressed with the passion she has for her business! The opportunities for inclusive community connection in a historically conservative community is something that Leelanau County has sorely needed more of. While being different is often unpopular, I think that individuals neglect the value that diversity can bring to the table in all aspects of life. I also feel that Leelanau county needs to have more places that allow those who feel marginalized or outcast to have a space where they feel welcomed, and this is it. Kudos to Rachel for opening her bookstore and her heart to the Cedar community! Thereās enough love, swag, and books in her bookstore for everyone (as long as they have open hearts and minds ā¤ļø)
Keep it up,...
