Darlington County Historical Commission & Museum — Local services in South Carolina

If you had family that settled, even briefly, in the Darlington/Florence/Timmonsville/Hartsville areas, chances are... they have a record of it. We took a trip up to do some research just last week and boy did we find, what we started to refer to as, "All the Stuff". Our first day, we were there 4, was kind of overwhelming because they had so many folders. We didn't necessarily break through any brick walls, unfortunately, but we learned a lot about some of our ancestors and the branches that stayed in the area.

Brian and Nannie are so helpful and patient and fun to talk to. They know so much that even if they don't have something on file, they probably know who does. They can help guide you to research spots you might not have thought of.

They also have reference materials for much of South Carolina, as well as, many other states; they are not just focused on the surrouding area.

Stopped by the Historical Commission and Archives to get some info about Society Hill. It was a great pleasure to meet our Commissioner and local Historian. He helped me get historical information about my family as well as my town. It was an awesome experience and I will be going back soon...
