THE VIBE: This megaplex location features a lot of grey, cold, concrete. There are not a lot of fun lights/chairs/tables to break it up like there are at the district location. In general, staff seem unprofessional, undertrained, and many of them linger around the bowling desk, the host desk, and around the desk where they take tickets. Normally, this could be excused as a quick visit, but I am here frequently with my family because we have the megapass. These areas are usually crowded, and most of the people there seem to be employees.
THE WEBSITE: When I ordered my tickets online, not only were there 30 options, but when i arrived at the theater, the tickets would not load. I will clarify now-- ALL of the seats are luxury, and all of them recline. Luxury BOX refers to seats where you can order food, “Dine in,” as one employee said, and Luxury LOUNGER refers to seats directly in front of the screen which are always in the reclining position.
CONCESSIONS: Some of the staff is friendly, and they will tell you that they “watched an online video, and then got put to work.” Sometimes staff will need help, and circling back to the issue of employees hanging around the host desk, they will have to run all the way over there to get their shift leader. Other than that, the staff at concessions is very quick. The tapping mechanism is a little touchy, but without fail, if you insert your card, it will work.
THE THEATER: It seems that the size of the theater varies; some of them are cozy and small, and others are normal sized. Not all of the chairs have heated seats, or it is unclear if they do, so there is not much you can do about the sub 60 temperature inside the theater. The theaters are remarkably clean, though, and cleaning staff is eager to clean the theater. They will hold the door for you, and enter as soon as you leave. Once when I came here, there was no one else in the theater, so me and my girlfriend took one of the “Luxury boxes,” which is quite comfortable, feels exclusive, and has a liftable armrest in between the “two” seats. It is also unclear if this seat has a seat heater, and even though it was very easy to cuddle in the luxury box seat, it was so cold that that didn’t help much, and me and my girlfriend went to the arcade.
THE ARCADE: The arcade is very noisy. Thankfully, earplugs are available at the ticket taking desk, and they work well. The arcade could do with a soundproof wall. All the way back to concessions, it makes ordering difficult. They have a lot of games, however, even after hitting the jackpot at some games, and spending a little over 50 dollars, we discovered that not all games will give you tickets. We had 800ish tickets at the end of the night, and it was enough for a few candies, a small rubber object, and a squishy cube. The area where you claim your prizes is significantly quieter than the arcade area, with only a little wall between them. This shows what a wall could do for the rest of the building.
DINING: There were several people with nametags and earpieces hanging around the aforementioned host desk, but despite this, we were quickly seated. Our server came back to take our order quickly, of course, and we ordered a pizza. It was incredible. I do not even know where she disappeared to take the order, because the dining area is so well designed, aside from being attached to bowling, which is a little awkward. While we were here, there was a concert going on outside, as well as music playing inside, as well as the inescapable noises of the arcade, which upset both me and my girlfriend.
OVERALL: I like this place. It is definitely an experience, complete with the faint din of the arcade. It is well lit, and boring in composition, but it is what it says it is. I think the most interesting thing in the building is the railing that looks like bowling pins, and the vertical wooden boards which decorate walls in the cinema area. They have good food, and I recommend bringing a blanket and a hat, because a jacket does not help very much with the...
Read moreUnfortunately, Megaplex Downtown Daybreak is less of a theater and more of a “fun center”.
As soon as you enter, the loudness of the arcade greets you. It wasn’t the most pleasant in terms of lobby noise, and made communicating a bit difficult. The arcade itself has newer games, but comparing locally- Round1 in Sandy (being much larger) is the clear winner.
Next up, there’s both a dining area and bowling alley to your left. The dining room looks a little uninviting, but the menu seemed promising. I’m interested in trying out a few items. I can’t imagine anybody making a point to eat here, but I’m sure it enhances the bowling experience. It was unclear if you could order to-go and bring your food to your theater seat, or if you could only eat in the dining area. I know the loveseats within the theaters offer in-seat ordering of the kitchen menu, however it appears this is exclusive to those seats.
The bowling area looked nice. The lane floors are digitized with screens which adds some uniqueness. However, I’m reminded again of Round1- which also offers bowling in addition to a much larger arcade, karaoke rooms, bar, and more prize options.
Now for theater concessions. I’ll give some grace since today was opening, and many menu items weren’t available. However, the lanes to order concessions were far too small and felt hard to navigate without bumping into other guests. I typically order a basket of fries when I see movies at Megaplex, but the concessions staff said they didn’t think they had any. That was a bummer. Also, no Freestyle machines here… even bigger bummer. As such, the drink options are significantly limited compared to other theaters in the area.
Finally, the theater itself. For its size, I’d expect 2 separate exit walkways (in line with other theaters in the area). Our theater only had one, so all the guests had to exit and enter through the same door. Not a big deal, but something I noticed. The theater itself was perfectly fine, nothing to rave about. I did feel like the premium screen felt a bit smaller in comparison to, say, Cinemark’s XD theater- but it got the job done.
Overall, I think it’s unfortunate that the theater aspect of this Megaplex location takes a back seat to other activities. The loudness of the arcade is a bit overwhelming, and I think it’d benefit from a door to separate it from the lobby. The lack of a Freestyle machine is felt. The divided loveseat options seem promising for date nights, and I think that might be where this theater shines… I’ll definitely be back to check those out! For any other theater visits, I’ll likely stick to the...
Read moreRestaurant had very bad service unfortunately… My fiancé and I had made a simple order to share bread sticks as an appetizer and Burger with Fries as an entree. Took 45 min to get both the appetizer and entree to come at the same time. Our waitress seemed very inexperienced and barely interacted with us. After getting our drinks she never came back to check on us until maybe 30 min later to say that the food is coming. There was a mom and kids sitting behind us that came in after us and they got their food faster than we did and we only had ordered two plates.. Also there was only four tables being served along side the bowling alley side of tables which only had a few tables to serve as well. So it was not packed and a full restaurant by any means. Should have been a very easy night for any waitress/waiter. As far as the food goes the burger and fries were fair I’d say 6.5/10 same for the bread sticks. We asked to speak to the Manager before they brought the food out and NOT once did the Manager come to speak to us, even when we left. Also when I asked for ketchup the waitress brought me an empty bottle and then I asked the other waiter if they had another that was not empty and he bring me another empty bottle.. How do you not know the weight of an empty ketchup bottle before bringing by had to the table lol, ridiculous and unfortunate. Very disappointing in the staff and teamwork that they are suppose to present. They said that the meal was covered, but still didn’t see the Manager come to apologize or explain the issue. Hopefully they can get things in line and be on point. I would have at least appreciated the effort more if our waitress/staff was more attentive and was on our level...
