Hannaford — Local services in South Portland

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with an experience I had at your store this morning around 10 a.m. while shopping for Instacart. During checkout, the cashier named Kim was extremely rude. She reprimanded me for not informing her that I was doing Instacart, which I did not know was a requirement. Her tone was unprofessional and dismissive, and she seemed upset, even stating that she was “throwing me off to the other person.” What’s more concerning is the apparent difference in her behavior towards customers. She was very friendly and accommodating to the customer ahead of me, who happened to be Caucasian, even doubling her bags and engaging in pleasant conversation. In contrast, her demeanor towards me was cold and unkind, leaving me feeling unwelcome and mistreated. This is not the first time I have had a negative experience at this location, but today’s encounter felt especially upsetting. I would like to understand why there seems to be a discrepancy in how customers are treated and whether employees are trained to ensure all shoppers feel respected and valued. Not too crowded, the one way aisles are frustrating, but I understand the reasoning. The employees are very hot and cold. By that I mean some are very sweet. Like Theresa! But some are very cold and have a really pissy attitude in general. Great selection of fresh herbs! I do recommend going online and signing up for the hannaford rewards, or u dont get the weekly specials and sales. They dont tell u that at the register unless u happen to catch it and ask. I went I to the store today and a bagged named drew was extremely rude to me and my 10 year old! I ask to have him leave the chocolate bar out so he could have it after we paid. He refused. I explained my son was going to b eating it after we paid. . People leave out drinks and such for after there done. He had a real jerk additude. This store is kept in excellent shape, with aisles wide and clean, produce section spacious and well-kept, and meat department neat. It is obvious that the staff check over the produce and do not leave overripe or rotten produce on the shelf. Staff are friendly and helpful, even if your question is not related to the department they are in.

This store has a good selection of organic foods as well as a gluten-free section and some international foods. The prices are reasonable and noticeably lower than some of its competition.

The only real complaint I can make about the store is that the checkout area gets rather crowded during the busy times (usually 4-6 pm on weekdays), so it's a little tougher to navigate through that area to get to the various aisles from the front...
