TLDR: Their rude and only doing this for money by charging WAY too much for stuff and buying stuff off you for essentially nothing. All while selling broken items and somehow being too incompetent to see how their not functional
full review: Their pricings are horrible. 80% of their stock is well over the $1,000 mark whether they are worth that or not. and for selling trains to them you get virtually nothing.
scamming sellers: i traded in a Bachmann spectrum 2-8-0 that the only issue was a broken belt and the original price is around $160 and a $75 vintage 2-6-2 prairie with valve gear damage and they gave me 40 bucks for both. i understand giving a small amount of money for the 2-6-2 prairie but the spectrum was essentially new except for needing a new belt but they find it reasonable to give me $40. that's insane.
unrealistic pricing: as an example for their horrid pricing. their selling a basic lionchief 0-8-0 starter set engine for around 400-500 dollars. That's more than the whole set (which their not selling). on other sites such as Trainz.com they go for about $250. so basically there's no reason to shop here unless you're spoiled rich and still you can get better deals literally anywhere else. just don't shop here if you like having money.
Rude staff: the people working there aren't very nice. the woman at the counter had quite a rude tone in her voice as i was trying to sell them the trains until of course i went to buy a bottle of smoke fluid. then her tone changed right up. its almost like all this company wants is money.
Broken items: a while ago when i went looking for HO track i found broken items on store pegs. i brought it up to the person in front and they did take it down but I'm wondering how little about trains must you know to see a piece of track that is MISSING RAILS and still put it up for sale. speaks just about how incompetent this shop is as Bachmann, the company selling broken track. but this was years ago and things could have changed but id honestly not be surprised if they put it right back on the peg when i left.
i cannot say what the experience is buying a train from them because the prices are just too needlessly high. go read other reviews for that. (i genuinely don't know how there are so many 5 star reviews of this clown show. maybe its just...
Read moreI hit the character limit, so I'm going to significantly shorten this. The opinion is even worse with all the details that I can't fit in.
Out of the four employees I dealt with only one of them had any understanding of the most basic idea of how power worked in a train set.
The one that did was knowledgable in getting us the proper track, but when selling us more than ten pieces of track didn't seem to think it wise to recommend another plug in section of track which Lionel recommends if using more than ten pieces and which caused us hours of issues, four trips to the store, and a likely loss of money.
The customer service experience was poor with one employee finding playing with toy trains a better use of his time then tending to customers which were waiting for him and another older employee clearly enjoying the social aspects of his job more than helping his customers.
The older gentlemen also would not listen to symptoms of the problem requiring me to bring a whole backpack full of train parts to resolve a problem that could have been solved from simple description. This led to a train remote being left on a pile of the stores train remotes and incurring another trip to get it. The older gentlemen after appealing to a co-worker over the phone sold me the wrong component where the transformer he gave me literally couldn't plug into the track he sold me.
When I returned this piece of track I was not given the difference between the more expensive track the old man sold me vs the correct item I was traded for.
The entire issue was a weak transformer or not enough terminal sections of track. This took four trips and 3 days to resolve. I spent almost $400 at this store in that time and they couldn't return the difference between the piece I returned and the one they should have sold me? They should have given it to me for free due to the frustrations they cause me! Their excuse btw was that I had opened the packaging and didn't have the packaging with me...but they didn't dispute it was what they sold me, I'm just not digging through my trash with pointy Christmas tree limbs to find some pointless packaging. It was clearly their fault I was sold the incorrect item to begin with.
The whole place is the Mickey Mouse Show, do not go into this store expecting a...
Read moreLess than impressed.
I had been looking for a specific engine that Brady's had in stock so I took the hour long drive and arrived at Brady's. Upon first impressions the store had just about everything a train enthusiast could need, great display of cars and engines, track, and plenty of accessories.
Upon walking up to the counter I was greeted by employee who's facial expressions said, "I'd rather not be here but since I am I'll be miserable!" He asked me what I was in for and I explained about the engine I was in search for. He found it, brought it out, told me the cost, took my money, and that was it. I attempted to ask a few questions hoping if would lead toward some excitement or interest instead they were short yes or no answers with the tone of, "You're questions are sillly and amateur I don't have time for you!"
Needless to say I could have got the same interaction and experience had I made a purchase online.
The older gentlemen (who I presume to be the owner) was very warm and welcoming to all of customers as they walked in and were looking about. While I was there he spent most of his time on the floor helping those in need of basic questions. He did stop and talk to me for just a brief moment then went off to his office. I'm not sure if he had seen I had made my purchase and I was seen as just another drop of change in the jar or if had had things to do but it was a very quick interaction.
All in all it was a very lack luster impression for me. If transactional and no excitement is what your looking for then Brady's is the local place to go. I'll be trying my...
