Cool little shop. A bit disorganized at times, and the back room always looks a little cluttered; but I think that's mostly due to space constraints. From experience, it seems they go by eBay and online pricing, which is a fair market.
Selection:
There were quite a few rare gems in store to be had, and I've purchased a few myself. I'm fairly happy with my products, and they still work well.
There's a wonderfully wide selection of Nintendo (NES) titles; solid selection of Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and PlayStation 1 & 2 titles as well. Odd gaming consoles like a Magnavox Odyssey or Atari 2600 have been known to pop up, too. Keep checking back, as stock can vary daily.
Pricing:
Popularity looks like it plays a huge role in pricing at this store, with titles like Mario RPG, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Secret of Mana, all going for much higher prices than their other selections. For someone with an impartial view of digital vs physical purchases, a company's digital store may be a better deal for those on a tighter budget.
All in all, this is a hearty and great small business, with the potential to grow and offer even better deals in the future; and it's geared at people who are looking to collect or buy physical merchandise.
Trading/Sales:
Unfortunately, having only purchased titles, I am unfamiliar with their buybacks and any policies related to trading. I do wish they had a partnership with a third party warranty company to further protect patron investments, even beyond the 30 days they currently offer. Naturally, at a reasonable fee to customers.
Product condition/Conditional pricing:
Some titles featured in store had worn down labels, but had hand drawn art taped or glued to the front of the cartridge. This can be good or bad depending on a person's opinion. Pricing should reflect the wear & tear like they reflect missing pieces.
Promotions:
Speaking of deals, this store runs quite a few... So it's always good to call before you go and see what's on offer. Sales feature deals like buy 10 $10.00 or less games at a fixed rate, buy a console, get discounts on games that same day, and other assorted promotions.
The big focus here are retro titles, with a good bit smaller stock of modern consoles and their games in comparison. Occasional tournaments put the retro hardware to good use... Which let you either relive the 90's, or try something from an older generation.
Staff seem friendly, and try to make a fair selection available. They're even willing to work with you on making your visit memorable.
Cons:
Staff have been rumored to "skim off the top" a bit, by keeping a few of the rarer, more valuable gaming gems for themselves; but that can really just be written off as a perk for providing a rare service and determining stock.
Some prices definitely reflect market demand and collector's value. Premium pricing may apply on high demand or rare items.
I haven't seen any digital sales at all. That means there aren't any visits from company representatives, and as a result, there are likely not a lot of partnerships with publishers. I haven't seen preorders as an option, either.
Extra services:
I'm told they're willing to keep an eye out for a title you may be interested in, and call you as it comes available. Very helpful if you were to travel a long distance or just be hunting for a game.
Googling them shows that they have a website under construction, so online browsing and ordering may be coming soon. Shipping titles in a more streamlined manner may also be possible in the future.
Google also reveals that they have an eBay store.
Opinion:
I'm looking forward to seeing this company grow; and I'm hoping it doesn't eventually cave under competitive corporate pressure. Especially if caving was to result in a buy out by a larger rival, much as Rhino Games was acquired by Gamestop several years ago.
Go give them a call or look. You might be surprised at what...
Read moreso a few months ago, I came in looking for a Zelda game for GameCube. It is called twilight Princess, and they told me they didn’t have it but they do stock it in. They said it’s rare and they will call me in. I figured it’s no problem and I gave them my number and they put me on a log for a GameCube and the game for GameCube called twilight princess legends of Zelda. I haven’t got a callback for months for anything. I came into the store today as I’m writing this review right now and when I walked in after a few months of waiting and apparently being on a call log for a few months now, nobody has called . when I walked in. I had asked a bunch of questions if they had certain games or game cubes or an Xbox game I was looking for today, which was the elder scrolls morrowind for regular Xbox. they said they had it in stock and I was looking through their games and then they said sorry we don’t have it as I was still looking. So I figured that’s fine so I asked them because I was curious If they had a GameCube in stock and me being on a call log and the only one on that call log that needed a GameCube and i was basically in a line. They told me they didn’t sell a GameCube too long ago And that really ticked me off so now I am writing this review because of how bad the customer service is in game quest the guy that is there since last time doesn’t really care at all For my experience, I’d prefer to just go to GameStop for games. Seems to be this company seems to be more fond of other people than new people asking for stuff and being put in a line that doesn’t exist. like heck They didn’t even recognize my number or in their system after I came there a few months ago and asked for the game and called in multiple times. I feel like game quest has very bad services because of the people and not actually working and commuting with the customer. To be honest, I feel like it’s very unfair that I put myself on a list with my time and never got anything in return from the Employee. also, it seems like the employee that is the manager there or one blow down the higher up does not care whatsoever just told me to have a great day as I walked out. Frustrated because I’ve been waiting for the game for a long time and they just told me that they just sold a GameCube when I have been in on a call log in line which they told me nobody was in the line when I put my number on there. I walked out very frustrated and said please take my number off of the call line Which they probably don’t remember. please, for everybody sake don’t go in here, but if you wanna waste your time, please come to game quest. My name is Garrett Nicholas Rogers I live in Florida game Quit. I mean quest is a really bad store. don’t recommend it at all. employees are careless especially the manager or foreman because he’s the one I’ve seen the most when I left unhappy they didn’t take action at all To help pull the customer back probably because they felt like they already made the profit. They needed other than calling the customer that had put himself in a log list for a GameCube, and then recently sold a GameCube when I asked. it’s very unappreciated and if you want to get a real game or be on a real business, call list or call log in a line for a game you want is most likely GameStop game. Quest does not have higher ups or responsibilities like GameStop also before I left that game quest place I let them know with my words. I said it’s all about business if they don’t have it they’re not gonna get it. A lot of gaming companies could make a lot of money if they knew what the customer wanted, I can easily find a legend of Zelda twilight Princess, or a GameCube or a game called Morrowind, the elder scrolls from another place very easily. If you want to go to game quest prepare for a hard time for the...
Read moreI’m rather upset that I have to leave this kind of review but it’s something worth noting for other people. I visited Game Quest around late August and bought a variety of video games. Had a very decent experience and went home super thrilled with everything I got. One of the Wii games i bought was a bit scratched which I didn’t mind since I understand that when buying retro games it’s to be expected. When inserted into the console, it didn’t read. I contacted the shop explaining the situation and I requested either to return for polishing or a refund. They told me I could go back for polishing, which I did. On that visit I had another great experience, ended up buying an Xbox 360 and a whole bunch of more games. Came home, the Wii game still didn’t work and two other ones as well. I contacted them again explaining everything and they said they apologize and to come back and they’ll take care of everything. Mind you this place is a whole hour away for me so it’s hard for me to go back and forth. I love supporting shops like this so when I have time, I try to go out to support them. My partner went today to obtain a refund and they accused us of scratching the discs and that they do not offer refunds. They ended up providing cash and stated they typically do not do that. My issue with this whole thing is that I’m clearly NOT trying to take advantage of anyone and literally tried to keep the games. I think for a customer to request a refund for something that is not working properly is pretty reasonable. But to accuse them of tampering with them and deny a refund is absolutely ridiculous. Had I tried to actually waste their time I would’ve brought all 10+ games I bought and everything else. Would’ve loved to continue business with them but after this situation I just rather not lose my time and money. I left the messages we exchanged prior to this last interaction so you guys can see that I’m...
