I noticed a few bad reviews on here about this game store. From my experience, none of those comments are true. When I found out Video Game Castle in Chicopee was closing because Ron and Ralph were retiring, myself and a few friends had to find another retro game store. And no, Game Hunters sucks. They will ban you from the store because you accidently stepped on a gumball that fell out of the machine. Anyways, when I heard that a retro game store opened in my neighbourhood, I went to check it out and found Retro World bought Castle's stock. Lol. The MANAGER with the coloured hair, is brilliant when it comes to knowing quite a bit about games. People writing reviews saying that he is rude and passive aggressive, coming from someone in costumer service, what the hell did you say to him first? Really? Another comment said that he followed you around the store. Did you act shady? Were you trying to steal something? A store employee will not do this unless they feel that you are up to something. And knowing this employee myself, he would have you leave to begin with. Another comment said that he only pays attention to young girls and not the regular costumers. Did those young girls come in with their parents? Because the last I checked, if you can get the kids to want something in a store like that, the parents are going to hand over their money. And he was most likely being polite. Not to mention, the man is married. Lol. I bring my kids in there all of the time. No issues, and we are not unconformable. Business 101. Convince the child, reel in the parents money. Lol. Another comment. It says that this store has very few PS5 games and will not sell brand new PS5 games. Or something like that. IT IS A RETRO GAME STORE. Game Castle did the same thing. Why does every store have to be the same for you? If you want brand new games and systems, go to Game Stop. If you want to enjoy your games and feel the nostalgic good ol' days, go to Retro World. To be honest with everyone, I will not go to any other game store but Retro World, and I cannot wait for them to open up D&D as well. Retro World and Game Castle cannot be compared, respectfully. But Retro World gives me the same vibe that VGC did when I go inside. And for some of us, that is everything right there. The rest of you just suck and need to get off of your high horses....
Read moreThis place was absolutely terrible Guy with dyed hair which I believe is the owner was very rude Getting into my personal business I am disabled with autism so social interactions aren’t that easy for me I came in asking for a PS3 original and he asked why And I told him I wanted to jailbreak it and he got really defensive saying that I shouldn’t have told him that BUT HE ASKED what I was as going to do with it so I told him and then he asked what pacifically am I gonna do when I jailbreak it and at this point I was really uncomfortable and I told him I don’t know I felt like I should not have to tell him what I am going to do with it then he goes on a rant About That’s how people walk on you and goes on and on and the thing that really got me was he said I look young and then asked how old I was and how did I get to the store did you drive ride your bike or walk? And at this point, I just wanted to walk out he still sold me the PS3 which I felt like I was taking advantage of The guy is a complete creep and needs to learn boundaries with his customers I do not recommend anybody into video...
Read moreRetro World has amazing variety in the number of games and systems they offer, well beyond what I expected coming in. As a Pokémon fan, the fact that they carry several carts through the generations is nice to see. I even picked up a GBA SP from them for my collection.
Even more fun for me is the REWIND section - the movie area that has a bunch of VHS tapes and DVDs. I'm a huge horror fan, and got a few nice oddities from there, along with some fun [read: troll] movies to give as gifts during the holidays.
And the Music Hall has a WILD selection of vinyls, nevermind the cassettes and CDs. All kinds of music, including a nice Herb Albert vinyl I got for a cocktail night I was hosting.
They're still getting their feet, but I can't wait for The Vault to open - a small museum with mint and rare pieces from the owner's personal collection. Same can be said for the Board Room for the board and card games, and the Test Site for trying games before buying or just as a hangout space!
While I do work here, this review is from my perspective of how far it's come from...
