This is the first year my daughter has attended/had dance instruction...she just turned 9 yrs old. The owner of the this dance school is the most absolute amazing person. She's kind and caring towards the students and easy to work with if you encounter special circumstances. The teachers are so amazing with their students (Ms. Melissa and Ms. Sabrina). My daughter absolutely LOVES her teachers. They are kind hearted and are good role models for their students in behavior, respect, and manners. My daughter LOVES to go to dance...counting down the days until her next class. The other girls in her class are sweet children...there has never been a mean word said nor bad behavior. We were most impressed with the operation of Spring Recital. It ran very smoothly. The performances are separated into three different performances which I appreciated because there was not over crowding and we were able to have fabulous seats to watch our dancer perform. The best part of it all was each dancer received a single long stemmed rose and a well constructed medal after their performance. My daughter wore her medal to lunch after her performance and then for a week after that. If you are looking for an "Dance Mom's" type of studio where the competitive edge is outrageous and unnecessary stress is placed on your dancer...SLDC is not for you. If you are looking for a dance studio where your dancer will receive good technique instruction coupled with love and support...SLDC is what you've been looking for. Your dancer will have sweet childhood memories made there. Another reviewer mentioned "unskilled and poorly trained dancers"...in preparation for a recital or show, you are allowed to video tape/record the instructor so that you have something at home to practice and reference to. I did this for Spring Recital since I knew that just one class a week would not be enough for my dancer to know her dance numbers in and out. I also have witnessed the "older girls" getting ready for class...talking about their lives as they put their shoes on. They are positive young women that I hope and pray my daughter will grow up to be. And at 9 yrs old...she's already talking about growing up to perform and then to teach. Positive experience all...
Read moreI have a great time at SLDC, my weekly adventures. Not only are you given opportunities to learn and excel, but you also get to show your hard work through a holiday nutcracker (which you can choose to participate in of course) Also an end of the year recital. Plus you can even do special performances throughout the year depending on your age. (performing in a pumpkin patch for several years is always a personal fun favorite of mine) The teachers have a wonderful way of teaching you the knowledge, and making you look great while doing it. And yes I do admit that it is possible to have a bad experience there. Just remember, we create professionals but also the earlier ages are just kids. Just because your child doesn't stick to dance like I do, doesn't mean that SLDC is a bad school. I'm not saying you have to go there, but I THINK its a great school. Like I said, remember we are just kids having fun, making memories and possibly...
Read moreMy daughter attended this dance school from age 5 to 9 years. I thought the curriculum of dance was great, and she really excelled. What I found heartbreaking was the bullying she experienced from one little girl who everyone (including staff) catered to. I had addressed a bad situation during one summer camp, which was addressed immediately, but the girls were still cruel to my daughter. There seems to be a lot of mean girl behavior, which I’m shocked the staff never addressed. If I can observe it when I pick my daughter up (and it’s not just my daughter who was targeted), I’m sure the teachers observe that behavior too. Be careful if you choose to have your child attend this school. My daughter just brought up to me today how mean and cruel they were to her, so I decided to share...
