Capital Hatters — Local services in Stephenville

WOW. Upon the recommendation of a neighboring rancher, I mailed an old 1960s silver belly Stetson off for cleaning to Capital Hatters in Stephenville, Texas. Owner James Andrae did an utterly superb job --- the very best workmanship of any ever seen!

Instead of a dirty, beat-up ol' cowboy hat, we now have a meticulously cleaned, perfectly rolled and shaped, fine Western hat, fitted with new sweatband and classic, grosgrain exterior band, also a luxurious, slightly darker grey, new satin headliner that's downright gorgeous, all by itself! The finished work shows sheer artistry that really couldn't be bettered. Even the brim's edge-bevelling was properly attended in a neat-yet-conservative manner.

I had a Wolvervine work boot that was uncomfortable in the inside heel. Without even handling the boot, Capital Hatters said they could't repair anything INSIDE a boot -- only soles and heels. The boots were still in good condition except for this one issue, so I took them home and closely inspected them. I found that the heel liner had become unglued and folded down such that the heel of my foot was standing on it. I applied contact cement to both surfaces and folded the heel liner back into its proper position. Now the boots are fine. I conclude that if a boot repair shop could not have repaired my boot, they couldn't repair much of anything. Maybe they do good work on soles and heels, but if they simply didn't want a "small potatoes" repair job like mine, they should...

My very first custom hat purchase in Texas. Guys at the Hatter walked me thru the process with measurements, design and fitment. Hat was ordered end of May and picked it up in December, just in time for Christmas. Merry Xmas to me. Was fun to watch my hat maker do the final shaping on my purchase. So happy with the results.
