Don Nicos Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Stephenville

I passed this restaurant many times, not knowing what a truly great family restaurant it is. My wife and I were warmly greeted and made welcome, the very friendly and efficient staff were eager to provide for our comfort and dining pleasure. The surroundings were authentic and indicated the immense pride of their heritage and upbringing. Our order was taken and items fully explained, our order arrived a short time later and I ask the gentleman if this was a family restaurant ? and he showed great honor and pride to reply and even pointed out the other location in town , a truly great family production. Now, I have dined on a great many Tex- mex and Hispanic meals all over Texas and elsewhere. Nothing prepared me for the food I was brought, I ordered the “ El Matador, “ the food just melted in my mouth, the tamales were absolutely delicious and the enchilada was just as good, the chips, dip, all complemented the meal, and the attention given to us as we dined was outstanding , now, this was not singled out on us, I watched and listened to the other patrons and all were treated to the same kind and efficient service. The warm and relaxed atmosphere was a true blessing. Which is so hard to find during these uncertain times in our state . I rewarded my server for a wonderful experience. And extend my complimence to the owners and to the family as a whole. I look forward to returning to your hwy loop location and revisiting such a great experience again. Thank you

This is a busy little place with notably good food. We have eaten here a couple of times and it hasn't disappointed so far. Chips are fresh and queso is good but this visit it was a bit thinner than the previous visit which was disappointing but it was still tasty. My husband had a chicken burrito which was the size of his plate and he couldn't eat it all in one sitting. I had the small beef fajita nachos that I also had to bring home so plenty of food for the buck. The beef fajita meat is tender and flavorful they could be a little less greedy with it but there was enough to satisfy this carnivore. Place has been busy both visits but didn't wait for a table. Service has been very good both times and of ya want a little spicier salsa ask for their green sauce. Will definitely return in the future for some...

Just very average. I got the fajitas beef turned in the a rice bowl sort of like Chipotle. It was mediocre at best. The flavor and amount of beef was barely good, and not a large portion around for the price. My mom got a taco meal with rice and beans that again, was just OK. The store was VERY clean however except the woman's bathroom that had that sewer smell. The wan that took our order wasn't super friendly to be honest, kind of an indifferent attitude that is off putting, but the cook staff were pretty attentive and nice. They were out of rootbeer, and a cook came out to apologize and ask me specifically of their was anything else he could personally get me. I did appreciate that. All in all my experience was very in-between, I won't suggest in the future but also won't be against trying again if...
