Mr Ks used to be a staple of the area but with all the development and Walmart expanding everywhere, the toll it has taken on more local grocers is very clear.
It was some time since I was last here but from the pristine pride that was taken in the upkeep of this store in the 90s compared to today is disheartening. Almost all of the grocery carts are rundown with broken handgrips, the floors are chipped, pitted and uneven. The smell... I'm guessing and hoping it's from the fish section but it hits you as soon as you walk in. The isles are confusing along with random things being on isles out of the blue for no cohesive reason. IE, a whole pile of pumpkin pie filling in the dogfood section.
Price wise, its very hit or miss. Many things are much more expensive than most other stores in the area but some things are a little cheaper. It would be nice if big box stores didnt compete in the grocery market but they have also spoiled us by pricing out local places and killing that community vibe that used to exist. But it is the way of things now. Maybe someday stores like this will have a resurgence, a quaint shopping experience with a florist and all the other small town...
Read moreCheap grocery store but good quality for the price you pay. Got T-Bone steaks 2 packs of 2 steaks to a package. Found out these steaks were imported from Mexico. Store meat cutter said the meat was grass fed as far as he knew. My family and I found out these steaks taste and eat no different from more expensive cuts of meat. Piggy Wiggly states that they will not purchase meat that has steroids and chemicals, they guarantee it. So therefore you will not find any chemicals in the meat from Mexico. Grass fed is some of the most tender meat available. The reason for 4 Stars is.....Piggly Wiggly is owned by individuals that purchase a franchised store. Meaning their weekly adds will not be the same prices for all stores. An example some stores will give you free items advertised in their flyer, other stores will not because it was not advertised in their flyer. Very...
Read moreIn many ways this is a fabulous grocery store. Home town feel, you get to know cashiers by name etc. Great butcher shop!! Mr. K is the best!!!! The only real negative here, and it is a very big one, is the deli. You can walk up to the deli and there will be 4 or 5 people working there. They will look at you and not a one of them will acknowledge you. Several of the black employees in the deli are openly hostile towards whites. One black woman, (Mr. K employees should be given and required to wear name tags) a rotund, shortish lady with a red top knot on her head, will openly serve a black person behind you in line, interfere with a white person trying to fill your order and/or complete your order in slow motion if she has to serve you. You can see that their deli business cannot be doing well because of this. It's really quite inexcusable in the...
