Topsail Surf and Cycle — Local services in Surf City

I'm a local in surf city and am very fortunate that Topsail Surf and Cycle is on my typical daily bike route. I ride daily and my radwagon is my main source of transportation. 3pm one afternoon my chain snapped. I took it to the shop and they made it clear that they would do what was necessary to get my bike repaired and have new brakes put on as soon as possible as they understood and appreciated my sense of urgency for a speedy repair. My bike required 2 chains put together because of the length. I got a call around 7pm that evening from David and we went over the diagnosis, I'm confident that david was concerned about a speedy repair for me that was safe. He spotted some problems that would require unnecessary maintenance if not addressed. I need some cable management to prevent premature brake failure and set me up with all new brakes after trying to repair what i had. He knew it would get the job done, but he gave me the courtesy to give me the knowledge to make the correct decision on what was safe and financially smart. David got my bike repaired that evening and it was ready for pick up at opening the next day. Lindsey Loo at the desk was phenomenal, she was top notch customer service. She evaluated the situation and made sure that i was "stamped" as "priority" . I felt very comfortable about my unfortunate circumstances."Loo" also was the individual I dealt with on pick up and was very professional and friendly. She steared me in the right direction on a couple of accessories I've been contemplating and we had great bike banter about different products. The store is amazing, great inventory and I'm convinced they can get you whatever you need. I most likely will add the shop to one of my regular pit stops on a joyride just to see what's new in the bike world, this shop knows what's going on and has great knowledge. I'm really not the guy to put bumper stickers on a car or bike, but i made sure to grab a sticker from the counter that day and slapped it on my bike. Great job Topsail Surf and...

Great bike shop for local rentals - super friendly folks, very helpful and patient with us. We didn't know what we didn't know - but liked the idea of riding on the beach, so we opted for a pair of "fat tire" bikes - which are crazy smooth on the hard surfaces... bonus!

Basically you choose from single speed / multi speed / fat-tire / e-bike at increasing price points. The fat-tire bikes are also multi-speed - VERY comfortable to ride on and smooth shifting.

Sadly, riding on the beach is hard - especially if you can't find good, packed sand to ride on. We thought we had a good stretch - but it wore us out quick. Back to the streets and comfortable, easy pedaling along North Topsail Island.

Of course, the next morning we see a mom and 2 kids effortlyess pedal along the beach in some single speed bikes -- made it look easy! I found out: location, location, location makes all the difference. That section of the beach was apparently much better to ride on compared to 2 miles down that we tried.

You live and learn - but we really enjoyed it, wish we had done it sooner in the week since multi-day rentals scale the rental...

I’m new to the E-bike world and made a huge mistake by not buying local. I bought a brand that’s only sold online and out of state. This bike was well over $3000 and didn’t last but 10 miles before the motor went out. I went to the companies website, and searched for a service center. After calling 5 different local businesses, nobody wanted to service this bike because I didn’t buy from them and they don’t sell this brand. I finally found David here at TOPSAIL SURF and Cycle and I told him the issue. He was more than happy to work on this bike and deal with a very frustrating company. After a lot of back-and-forth with this offbrand, he was able to get a new motor sent to him, free of charge. Lesson learned, buy local and stick with Topsail Surf and Cycle. David was extremely professional, patient, accommodating, and a plain out down to earth great person to work with! The hour and a half each way from New Bern to David was well worth it and I’ll definitely do business in the future with TOPSAIL...
