Hansen Foods of Suttons Bay — Local services in Suttons Bay Township

First, the staff is spectacular! Everyone you interact with is friendly and pleasant. That being said, I Wish there was another option available in Suttons Bay for groceries, and basic household items. The owner treats his position, being the only place to get your food in the area, like he owns an airport. Meaning he prices everything so extraordinarily high topped with what has been dubbed, "The Hansen's Foods Tax". I have been working in a little project that I will post later. It is a direct comparison of prices from Hansen's Foods, and other food stores in the area. Some of which, logistically, should have higher prices, but are still well within par. The study will show, it is well worth ones time and money, to go to another store to get the exact same brands and/or quality of food. Considering that which is available in most supermarkets, that is nationally produced, processed, and distributed, are from a VERY small pool of "manufacturers ", who simply change the "brand label" to satisfy local markets receiving final goods, means the products purchased are practically, if not fully identical in body, yet at Hansen's Foods you will pay PREMIUM PRICE...

Have always loved Hasen's, but thier prices are out in the stratosphere. Half a cart of groceries.....400 bucks. I felt like it should be renamed...."10 bucks or more store". I just dont buy the "we are not meijer and walmart and cant get the discounts ...speel anymore"

The original founder owns a Hansen Foods in Hart Michigan and thier prices are considerably less. At first glance it just seems like everything is jacked up because all the tourists are in town and dont feel like driving to TC.

Its a great convenience and they have other items that are good quality....but cmon.....9 bucks for a box of Special K cereal? There is absolutely nothing special about that. Walmart sells that box for $4.98 and they are making a profit. The cashier told me they are about 5% higher than Wal-Mart. I think she meant to say 58% higher.

I'm a little torn writing this review because I want to support a local business and this location does have some great options. However, I've had multiple run-ins/witnessed events with one of the staff (older woman, grandmother) in particular that has prevented me from ever shopping here again. Her attitude is disgusting, she treats younger individuals in a demeaning and disrespectful tone. When she is not actively working the register, she stands over people and either makes nasty comments or gives glares/rude faces. It's a shame one person can so negatively impact business, I'd hope in the future they place her in another position outside of customer relations. Until then, our family and friends will be...
