My wife and I stopped in the shop in Swan Valley last Sunday morning to pick up some tippet, flies and maybe some river intel as we were in town to float the South fork for the first time. I'm not sure if he had a late night at the Targhee fest, wanted to be guiding instead of working the shop counter, or maybe he was just having an off day, but saying the guy working the shop was less than enthusiastic would be an understatement. As we walked in and said our "Hello's" he wiped the sleep from his face and begrudgingly made his way from the back office to lean against the counter and mumble one word answers to our questions about the river conditions, shuttle providers, and possible hatches we might encounter. Sensing we were an obvious annoyance to this guys morning, we skipped the larger purchase I'd planned to make, and instead grabbed a few flies and a few other basics and let this guy get back to his morning of doom scrolling tiktok. Other wise the shop is stocked ok, not great. Fly selection is very location specific. Parking and access with a drift boat is a hassle. Hope that the gas station next door isn't busy and you can park there. Otherwise maybe just spend your money and get any river intel you need at Jimmy's in IF or one of the shops in Teton Valley or Jackson before...
Read moreCustomer service sucks at the LPC swan valley shop, but it’s about the same as the other lodge shop down at the Conant ramp. The staff at the LPC fly shop seem inconvenienced when asked a question and reluctant to engage. It feels like they literally don’t want to help. This has been my experience for years. I can also echo what others have said about them not being open during posted business hours sometimes. I’m a seasoned fly fisher and I can only imagine how it must feel for a beginner to go in there. This is exactly why people can feel intimidated when getting into the sport and should be a thing of the past. LPC fly shop might want to figure out that customer...
