This is a real hidden gem in the mountains of Northern Georgia. It's approximately a two hour drive from Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) airport. There are lots of different cabins available for rental, but we selected the "Here For The Views" cabin. I was thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail the community places on a positive experience for visitors. In this day and age, it's very difficult to find. For starters, the cabin is nestled in a forested area which is very private and serene. Second, the amenities are well organized and high quality. All the cookware in the home is top notch, the beds are comfortable and contain high quality linens, the bathrooms are large, water pressure is great... basically everything met or exceeded our expectations. For the price point, it would be hard to find another option in the area that not only has the location, but has the personal touch that the rental properties in the Big Canoe community possess. We are already planning our next visit to partake in some of the activities we weren't able to do on this quick trip. There is a marina where you can rent pontoon boats, you can purchase a one-day fishing license and fish in a lake that's stocked with trout, there are tennis and pickleball courts, three 9-hole golf courses, and shops and dining both inside and just outside the community. Lowe's grocery store is a quick 20 minute drive, and be sure to have a meal at Lucky Hare if you get the opportunity. Also, Eagle's Nest is a short drive (Mt. Oglethorpe) which was formerly the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
Kudos to all the people of Big Canoe who went above and beyond to welcome us into their community. Even the person at the guard station was super friendly, provided us with maps and instructions, and gave us a sense she was truly excited for us...
Read moreOur family has been visiting Big Canoe every summer for more than 17 years, using Mountain Home Rentals of Georgia each year. This community is a home away from home that is relaxing and perfect for family time. Big Canoe has changed some over the years, changing from an upscale “second residence” community to a “second residence”/vacation spot with more owners offering their second residence as an air bnb/VRBO rental. This has worked well for our family and we have thoroughly enjoyed it. We have stayed at quite a few homes, most often in Laurel Ridge, which we love. Each one offering the perfect amount of space and bedrooms we needed for our family of 6 plus our kids’ friends. Mountain Home Rentals has been great to work with offering a predictable and consistent level of customer service. Anything we needed, all we had to do was call and they took care of it-if we even needed anything. The homes we have rented have been reasonably priced and so comfortable! We had a dog, who, as he aged, we began needing to bring him with us. Mountain Home Rentals offered rental options that were just as lovely that accommodated our pet needs. This was really important to us for memory making and being able to keep our dog with our family pack. Mountain Home Rentals has changed ownership in the past few years and thankfully, the level of service has not changed. We have received the same high quality service we have been receiving these past 17+ years. Big Canoe has been our family vacation destination for the whole of our children’s growing up years and we will certainly continue our tradition there each summer, as well as, using Mountain Home...
Read moreI would not suggest renting homes managed by them through VRBO. They require the guests to pay a cleaning fee and then they expect the guest to do all the cleaning. When I stayed at one of their homes, upon leaving I started laundry, stripped their beds, started the dishwasher and took all the trash to the offsite dump. I left it in very good contain. I even watered their plants. However their cleaners told the management company that trash was left everywhere. They claimed I spilled stuff on the bed, which I did not at all. I only striped their sheets because they told me to. Their cleaners complained that I had put a few pots and pans in incorrect places and that they had to clean the stove. I don’t understand charging a cleaning fee and then expecting the guests to clean everything. Based on this, and their poor review of me as a guest on VRBO, I will never rent another house that they manage. If you are having them manage your Big Canoe house, please know that they are running away very good renters by treating...
