First time ever being there and it's a cute little concert hall. Thought it might be more like a theater but it's more like a kind of a rock room with a teeny tiny balcony that can hold Maybe 20 people... sort of reminded me of House of Independents in Asbury or a smaller Great Eagle Hall. Saw both a Smiths and Depeche Mode cover bands that were absolutely spot on and perfect!! Great place to see bands... stage is elevated so that everyone has a view sound system was pretty good...nice intimate place to see bands. Drinks were fairly expense in my opinion and was charged $32 for 2 mixed drinks which were supposed to be doubles but were not strong weak actually watching them pour). For $37 ($5 tip) for two drinks ...yikes...we switched to beer.. this is why it got one less star. Will go again if they have an act I'd like to see but will pre-game beforehand and stick with beers there. Place is far from me but seems like it has greater potential to be an up and coming venue/place if they can draw in some more well known acts or hold club-like dance events.. Check it out.

I want to give it more stars because the food and service are pretty good and the acts they generally hire aren't bad. However, you can't have sound issues when you advertise yourself as a music venue. A couple times I've been there and it's hit or miss whether you could hear the lead singer which is kind of taboo, all tech issues aside. Other than that it's a chill spot. There's food nearby if you want something other than what's on the house menu and there's an atm across the street if you need it. Can't really blame Debonair for the limited on-street parking, but thereare a few lots around, and all the parking is free after a certain time. Hopefully they'll get their sound situation sorted out, but you'll generally have a pretty good time if you're there with friends.

I dined with a group of 5 others at Mexicali on Sunday 3/20/2016. We booked reservations at this venue to see a dance performance.

Upon entering Mexicali we received the rudest greeting I think I've ever received in a dining establishment. The hostess who was collecting door-fees was dressed in a dress that barely covered her. It seemed totally inappropriate. Despite having a reservation, our group was waiting around for over TEN MINUTES for our table. During which I was informed by the hostess (who was sipping her own Starbucks) that outside drinks were not allowed in the establishment. What a hypocrite. Our group was even asked to move closer to the front for them to do their set-up. It was like we were not even welcome.

Finally we were ushered (and by ushered I mean POINTED) to our table. We then proceeded to wait forever for service in a restaurant that was minimally crowded at 3:00 PM. Looked over to see the servers and bartenders chatting behind the bar completely ignorant to their customers.

We were eventually helped by Lindsey who was our server for the evening and oh god was she a nightmare. She had the hospitality skills of a refrigerator and did not seem to care about our table. She served food to the wrong heads at our table. She dropped drinks off to places where no one was sitting without even taking a moment to acknowledge us. No communication whatsoever. She did not come by to offer dessert, clear glasses or plates. She did not even offer to wrap our friend's unfinished entree which had been sitting there for hours. She did not check up on our table once during the three hours we were seated. She dropped off the check at the end of the show where she affixed her 18% automatic gratuity. I am assuming this is why she got away with chatting with the bartenders all night and ignoring our table. We paid the bill but lack of hospitality and service gave us a very bad impression of this establishment.

The food and show were wonderful but I would not eat here again. The disappointing service completely ruined the experience. I strongly encourage the management of Mexicali to invest in training their staff in hospitality and for others to avoid dining at Mexicali until the professionalism of the staff is improved. Really disappointed with the service here. Waited around 35 minutes to find out that the staff didn’t send the order of chicken fingers and fries to the kitchen. No apologies or anything in the moment. I was surprised when I made a Yelp review that the manager came up to me to let me know that she saw my review and wanted to say sorry but I can tell the intention was due to the fact I left a review that was honest about their lack of customer service. I understand it was busy and understaffed but it was interesting to hear that she noticed the review and came up to me. I thought they were short staffed and wouldn’t have time to check something like a review? She even said something along the lines of that she would’ve comp’d our bill at the end of the night because she knew we would be there at the end of the night. It was interesting she said she “would’ve” but didn’t with her apology. No worries though I know the intention was to say sorry just because of my review I mentioned that I was surprised they didn’t say sorry. Very sassy apology and I felt uncomfortable with her talk. Wishing Debonair the best and hope they can improve their management soon....

!!!SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!!! This is one of my regular hangs, mostly for music and drinks, although occasionally we'll get some appetizers or something. For all of the negative reviews I've seen here, from my experience there, which is not negligible- I'll say that I've NEVER had a bad experience there!! The acts they get there are top-flight, just last month I saw Tinsley Ellis AND Les Dudek, and they were BOTH great, altho Les blew the ROOF off the place! Also saw some youngsters who opened for Tinsley that were also pretty amazing, and an insane drummer who was funky as all get-out! And YES, the sound there is impeccable. The staff is always personable to ME, and many of the faves play there time and time again, so I don't think they're having a bad time of it, or they wouldn't come BACK!! They rent the place out for parties, and being so close is GREAT, because I tend to avoid the ridiculous ordeal of going to the city to hear music- so that's a BIG plus for me! I see being a patron for years to come, God willing and if the crik don't rise! SUPPORT...
