I went from a four star to one star review for several reasons. I purchased a custom ordered Smith Bros recliner for $1603. This company, Smith Bros, claims to make fine furniture that is stylish and comfortable. The recliner is stylish but NOT comfortable. Look at the reviews of Smith Bros furniture which is made in Berne,IN. There are many negative reviews which I should have heeded. Gliddens represents this company and needs to inform their customers that if there is any problems Smith Bros will NOT discuss the issues I tried calling them but was told I had to go through my dealer, Gliddens. I did. Both Gliddens and Smith Bros informed me I should just give it time and the recliner would get more comfortable. I did not agree. A recliner is suppose to be comfortable and not so hard that your back and posterior feel numb. I reminded Gliddens that both my husband and myself are small and in our 70's. There may not be enough years left to see the comfort improve! The sales lady suggested I put the bottom cushion on the floor and jump up and down on it but to be careful and not fall. Really ?? I did because I was desperate to try something since I had given my husband's old recliner to our church charity stiore. Of course jumping on it did not help. I called Gliddens again and asked if they had any other suggestions. They would not exchange my recliner for one of lesser value because the sales lady said mine was too lodge looking and they did not sell this style often. But then she said that I might ask some large friends to come over and sit on it and sort of wallow around. Oh sure, I will have a fat friends party! Absurd! I asked if they could please offer other help since my husband is so displeased with the lack of comfort. So she said she would call Smith Bros and see if they would send a softer cushion to insert but that it would cost an additional $75. And, that her brother would come down to fix the bottom cushion and remove some of the stuffing from the back. She also said if that did not work then she would give me the name of the store's upholesters. I agreed even though it was going to be at my expense. I was pleased they offered to help. Well, that is the last I heard from Gliddens. I have called twice more and asked if they would return my call. They have not. I did discover that Smith Bros offers three different levels of cushioning and mine was the middle comfort level. I would not have selected it nor was I asked. I was willing to pay extra even though it was a $1603 chair because I did custom order it. But this business behavior by Gliddens is unacceptable Another example of a business more concerned with profit not service. This is short sided marketing; they can gouge a customer once and possibly get away with it But, the problem is that the dissatisfied customer will never purchase another product from them nor the company and will spread the word to others. I will not buy another custom ordered piece nor will I care about doing business with a local store or an American made company. Extremely disappointing and expensive experience. Truly sad when folks try to buy and support American companies and stores then get such poor customer service. Complete lack of respect....
Read moreIt’s been a long time since I actually shopped for furniture at a store. We have furnished our home with beautiful ’new to us’ furniture from antique stores, second hand shops, yard sales, and marketplace. I finally decided it was time we selected a new sofa for our formal sitting room / coffee room. We took a day and as exhausting as it was, went to nearly every furniture store in town. We were looking at quality, style, cost, and service. We started at Glidden’s and then went to all the others. By the end of the day we were back at Glidden’s. Their service is wonderful, quality impeccable, and we were surprised to find their prices not just competitive but lower than most of the other stores. Of course, I had a vision for what I thought I wanted and our sales associate Dennis was very helpful and accommodating. I was surprised to find they are one of the only stores in our area where you can get custom upholstered furniture for very little additional cost. We were able to get exactly what we wanted for what we wanted to spend and didn’t have to compromise on anything. It was delivered this morning and I couldn’t be happier. I am so happy we still have a wonderful locally owned furniture store here in town. If you are looking for quality furniture I would highly recommend Glidden Furniture...
Read moreMy wife and I bought a new Catnapper from Glidden Furniture last year and we were really pleased with it. Super comfortable and it was exactly what we needed. With COVID putting the hurt to local businesses, we wanted to support one. That was a HUGE mistake! This April the reclining mechanism broke after less than a year. We called Glidden’s and the sent someone out to repair it since it was still under warranty. They came and looked at it and said it was a simple fix and would get the parts right away. It has been anything but that. I’ve heard lies from Chicago politicians that weren’t as big as the one they told. A week later they called asking for my pregnant wife to lift the chair over to get the serial number so they could order the parts even though the repair man had taken a picture of the serial number. Communication and common sense seems to be lacking. It’s been over two months and we still have a broken recliner sitting in our living room. We’ve called twice asking about when it would be fixed and they blew us off by saying once the parts ship we don’t know when we’ll get them. They’re customer service is pathetic and they seem to not care. I’ve learned my lesson. Next time I’ll go to a big chain store and make my purchase there because this...
