As rivers go this one is about what you would expect: it's wet and is home to fowl and fish. The true measure of a river is how it transforms the land it cuts through. The Milwaukee is no river Hemingway like the Missouri River crossing long stretches of land rambling on for miles. Nor is it a roller coaster that is the Colorado River. Up in the Fredonia area, the river is clean, the water is clear, and at normal river level is roughly hip deep to wade through. There are larger rocks, so use caution if wading in the river.
