I used to visit the Glendale location which always was clean and welcoming , the new location is basically a different concept being a sports bar. My girlfriend and I visited the new location today and were immediately thrown off , we parked and started walking towards the door when 2 teenage workers waived us over to the walk up window. It was odd because we planned on eating inside they seemed off because they explained to us most of their business was walk up. We told them we were eating inside , we then entered the building and realized shoot this is more of a bar. We sat at the bar , I ordered a sprite although I wanted a Dr. pepper they don't have a fountain soda machine any more just a generic bar soda gun which was disappointing. I ordered 2 chili cheese dogs which I guess both come with sides for like $8 a pop , I got fries and sweet potato chips. The option where those 2 items or slaw. My girlfriend ordered a Chicago dog and a slaw dog and a chocolate malt. The bartender seemed a little odd and long in the tooth but overall friendly. Our food came out fast as I sipped my off brand sprite , my hot dogs were not very hot but the chili cheese dog was good. My girlfriend's Chicago dog was standard but her slaw dog was all wrong , they used vinegrrette based dressing and kale for the slaw throwing the flavor profile way off , my girlfriend was displeased and commented to the bartender how a normal mayo based slaw was the standard. The chef came out of the kitchen and told us he hates coleslaw and the idea of it makes him sick , at that point we saw 2 or 3 teenagers giggling and laughing in the kitchen and another employee out sitting near us in the dinning area. At that point it didn't feel too welcoming so we paid our $50 bill and left. The staff seemed rude and also seemed to be way too many people working so I doubt this location will...
Read moreA great fix for an ex-Chicagoan who knows his beef sandwiches. Been going here since they opened and the food is as real as can be expected for being up North and not in the windy. I REALLY wish they would give up on the Gonnella bread which seems to never be same day baked. I know they want to be purists, but I think they can do better with a freshly baked french bread from a local bakery. Just went to Portillos in Chicago recently and the BREAD is what made the difference... really crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. And as you probably know a Portillo's will be opening soon in Brookfield. Lets see how they do on bread... : ) BTW the hot dogs at Dr. Dawgs are fantastic right down to the radioactive green relish and celery salt. yum. And the fresh cut fries are spot on also. !! great job.. too bad the South Side could not appreciate a good Italian sammy. Oh well.
UPDATE Dec 2017. Its under new owners now. Pretty much the same still. Wish they had fresher Italian bread to go with the beef sandwiches, which has always been a minor gripe. Oh well thanks so much Dave (original owner) for bringing your Dr. Dawgs to Milwaukee!!! Now I won;t feel guilty on trekking to Brookfield to Portillo's. Dave...
Read moreDo NOT eat their burgers this was such a bad experience. Where do I start when I first walked in the place it’s like a dump trying to be a bar, but it’s not is it a restaurant or is it a bar? The waiter was not listening when taking my order or professional order the burger, fries, and a chocolate shake waited and finally got my burger but no shake they said they are making it. Why won’t they have made it while I was waiting for my burger?finally got the shake and left since I made this a to go order since the atmosphere was really crappy I didn’t notice until I left and drive home when trying the chocolate shake it tasted awful and extremely watery got home tried the burger and it was awful not only was it raw when I asked for it to be well done, but the meat tasted bad OLD bad! Oh and get this there is a piece of paper on the cheddar cheese on the burger. I grabbed my receipt to find the phone number to call them, but there’s no phone number on the receipt. I went to Google and guess what there’s no phone number on Google finally found one number called but no answer. I don’t even know if it’s the right number. I didn’t eat any of this. I did not want to drive back right now. I want...
