Cape Kiwanda beach is a stunningly beautiful location on the Oregon coast that is well worth a visit. The beach itself is wide and expansive, with golden sand and dramatic cliffs rising up on either side. The ocean waves are powerful and mesmerizing, making it a popular spot for surfers and beachcombers alike. One of the most unique features of Cape Kiwanda beach is the massive sand dune that dominates the landscape. you can climb to the top for incredible views of the beach and surrounding area, or you can try your hand at sandboarding down the dune. It's a thrilling experience that is sure to be a highlight of any visit. There are also plenty of hiking trails and other outdoor activities to enjoy in the surrounding area. Geologically, it's incredibly interesting. The coastline here is dynamic. The sandstone is all different colors and it all looks like a Dalí painting. The waves smack the cliff and it makes this terrifying rumbling sound which is awesome.
Parking was easy. If you go at low-tide the rocks are exposed. We saw several different species of starfish hanging out. That was a treat.
If you climb the dune (if you still can, we were lucky in that the sinkhole hadn't opened yet), don't cross barriers. It's tough to climb but a ton of fun, especially going down.
There is a restroom in the parking lot. The beach is nice and wide, but check tide tables prior...
Read moreLove the tide pools here! Great big wide beach to park on (within the designated areas, look for the signs). Please be mindful of the Dory boats as they land on the beach! They can not see your little ones playing in the surf as they speed towards land. Listen for their horns, keep your eyes up and move far away. The location has public restrooms at the back of the parking lot which also has a hose off spot! Two heads with high pressure to blast the sand off! There is an additional hose off spot behind the pelican pub. Across the street you have the stimulus coffee shop to get some awesome brewed coffee and pastries! Next door is a nice store which also serves icecream and food, limited selection of groceries, kites and tasty fudge! The location of this beach is seriously an all...
