For nine years of living in this small town, owning a home here, having the same bank account for the whole 9 yrs...I've dealt with unfresh, rotten and or moldy fruits, vegetables and bread from this store; further more being the only grocery store in town, me and every other person in this small town have had to deal with them raping our wallets with their convenience store price tags. Today was the last straw...I forgot my debit card at home. I asked the checker if they took checks, she said "yes, if you're a local". Cool, no problem... been here 9yrs, drivers lic.address matches my checks; should be no problem, right? Checker called the manager over, I was told by management that my check number of 173 was too low and they couldn't take my check. So I had to go home and come back with my debit card. Went straight to the same manager when i got back and told her my issue, she replied with "they don't like taking checks cause they've had problems with new accounts, gas stations don't even take checks and I could call the main store manager and he would tell me the same thing". I demanded she go tell that policy to the checker who told me they could take my check if i was a local; the proper policy, so another person in this town could avoid more of this stores...
Read moreStaying in Newport for a get away we went in to the market. In the bakery I asked if the cinnamon rolls were baked fresh, being a retired baker I just love fresh baked goods, the young man guaranteed me that not only the cinnamon rolls but everything in the case was baked fresh everyday. So I took them back to the store and asked to speak to the manager, I did check the bakery display where it looked unchanged from the previous day. The manager was unapologetic and I'm doing this review in retaliation don't eat from the...
Read moreJC market is changing. Even with just the rumors of tariffs the prices have gone up 80%. The one thing that would bring me into my local store was the soda machine. And now they've removed that. That has cut about half of my business out. I tried to buy a small pack of stew meat, it's almost doubled in price for the same amount! I will not buy cheese unless it's under $8. I'm not paying $13 for a block of cheese so now I have to go to Fred Meyer for that. Many other things I have completely stopped buying because the prices have become outrageous. I've become a Newport store bouncer. Shopping at 2 or 3 different stores to get the products that are the cheapest. Sorry JC, but sometimes keeping the simple things will keep...
