I frequently shop at Wegmans in the Ridgemont location in Greece which I love, however I come to the East Rochester location on Fairport Rd occasionally when working in the area, which I dred because the customer service is awful. When I speak I am not spoken back to and I'm never greeted. The crowd who shops there are no better which that is out of the control of the store. The only positive encounter I've had at this store was with a young gentleman named Stallion whom I've called corporate about to give compliments. I often call corporate to compliment the staff at the Ridgemont location. Yesterday I purchased sushi and went to self checkout my receipt didn't print out so after waiting for my receipt to print out for about 30 to 40 seconds I began to leave the register and was immediately approached by an associate named Annette. She approached me and said " you didn't pay for that" I told her I did and she said "no you didn't you have to pay for that" I told her again that I did and she replied "no you didn't " as she began to mess with the register I was at , I assume to prove to me I didn't pay. I then told her I can bring it up on my phone that I had paid for the item, she replied "maybe you think you did " and she continued to mess with the register. I pulled it up on my phone and showed her that I had paid for the item. She replied, "You were right" she then printed me a copy of my receipt then walked off. No apology or anything. The only thing this Wegmans location is missing is a sign that says no blacks allowed. I immediately called corporate after I walked out the store but the female I spoke to seemed as if she felt it was no big deal and gave me a dry apology and when I got off of work I called the store and spoke to the store manager, Carlton he seemed very nice and was very apologetic and offered me to come in this morning to speak unfortunately he was not available when I went in this morning. When I went there this morning I received the same treatment as usual no one speaks they look away or walk off but are very friendly to all the other customers whom are white. This morning Marianne stood at the customer service desk. I smiled at her, and she walked off as they always do. They behave like this all the time, and she then helped other customers. I have seen them ignore other black customers as well. Carlton was in an important meeting and couldn't come out, so I spoke to Heather she was apologetic and friendly and gave me a $25 gift card. Carlton had called and apologized again and seemed very genuine with his apology. I hope in the near future that Wegmans location will be polite to all of their customers. They can't change the way their customers behave, feel, think, or act but they do have control of their employees. I will stick with the Ridgemont location they are friendly, kind, and diverse and always exhibit great customer service. Charlene, Joseph, Trae, Josie, Emily, Reggie, Rachel, Korie, Aliyah, Katie, Denise, Sharon, Brayden, and all of the rest of the staff there including security are exceptional.
Update: I met with Carlton the store manager at this location a couple of days ago. He traveled to one of the Greece location stores to meet with me for my convenience. He had already apologized a few times over the phone, but after meeting with him, I knew he was truly genuine in his apology. I was quite pleased with our conversation and felt good knowing he had taken the situation seriously and was truly sorry for what had happened. I really appreciated the fact that he took the time out of his day to meet with me which was very personal, anyone can give a gift card or something tangible as items and money are replaceable however time isn't, which made me know that he was genuine and it gave me a sense of peace about the incident. I am pleased to know that they have such a respectable descent sincere manager at this location and working for...
Read moreThis wegmans is in my top 3 favorite Wegmans. (A silly sentence, I know, but if you live around here you could probably rank your favorite wegmans too.) They don’t make you burritos and they don’t have a weird fruit section and they’re not super fancy and this is what makes them great, because no one is ever there! If I need milk and eggs I can run in and get them. Even on busy days like the day before thanksgiving I can find a parking spot and get in and out fairly quickly. And it’s not like they only carry basic things. They do have some prepared foods and sushi and subs and $8 meals. They just don’t have the super fancy stuff that some wegmans like Pittsford offer. Their produce section is improving (the only thing about this store that I have bad things to say about. Where are all of the veggies?!) they even now have some local fruits and veggies right where you walk in the door. I’m all about local produce. It’s definitely worth going here, but please don’t, you not going to this wegmans is the reason I...
Read moreWegmans is awesome across the board. The staff is always ready to help and quite knowledgeable not only about their individual responsibilities, but about the entirety of the store as a whole. Wegmans is an established staple in the greater Rochester area and something I personally grew up with - having two immediate family members who worked for the company. Still my four star rating is based primarily on the age of this particular location - yeah I get it, this is the real McCoy. The baby. The first legitimate store that opened long ago. Before their Penfield location (my personal favorite) and long before their East Avenue location. The aforementioned locations of course are modern and offer convenience at every turn. Nostalgia is great but has proven to not win out against convenience and modernism time and time again. East Rochester Wegmans needs a serious face lift is all I'm saying. Aside from that, there's no better grocery shopping experience...
