I'd like to give Mo Bap a 5 star rating, however they simply don't deserve it as of August 2015. I took my husband in to the ER for "either a UTI or a kidney stone", they diagnosed a UTI, admitted him with IV antibiotics. The hospitalist was content to leave it at that, I had to ask to have the kidneys imaged for a possible stone. We were then told he had a MASSIVE stone and needed surgery which occurred within 4-5 hours of us being informed. (Now we're told he never had a UTI at that time... so was his hospital admission under a misdiagnosis??)
I told them REPEATEDLY of he's a 7+ year survivor as a Heart Failure patient, that he needs a vital lab drawn or his life is at great risk. It was well over 24 hours before that lab (magnesium) was drawn and his values were too low putting his life in danger. I had to have a PTSD meltdown before HOURS later they finally ordered the magnesium. We are CONFIDENT that had I not had my meltdown they would have failed to have checked nor treated the issue critical for his very survival.
Care was generally OK, however the hospitalist failed to address our concerns prior to admission so it took 2 days to get simple things straightened out. His regular cardiologist and his hospital-supplied urologist said he was ready for discharge both stated "it is not medically necessary" for him to remain hospitalized, he easily passed all the "benchmarks" yet over TWELVE HOURS later at 930pm at night they had nursing supervisors arguing with him why he thought he was ready to go home, they both then on each side of him laid his bed FLAT ON HIS BACK which he can't NORMALLY do in the hospital or at home (at home he sleeps propped up on pillows, which is common with heart failure patients), then he began coughing due to being laid flat on his back and arguing back with them so they both chastised him stating that he couldn't breathe so he couldn't be discharged. WTH?! Needless to say we walked out of there.
Furthermore, just a few hours earlier, somebody placed a bloody used urinal (kidney stone surgery, remember?) right in the middle of his UNFINISHED DINNER TRAY, which was supposedly an improvement since prior to that it was left in the bath room which is obviously out of his reach. He had just recovered from pneumonia a few weeks earlier. When someone has been on NINE or TEN prescriptions of antibiotics in just THREE MONTHS they are at MUCH greater risk of a fatal C-Diff infection. Our friend's husband died of a hospital acquired C-Diff infection so this is definitely a concern we are aware can be fatal. Putting a filthy nasty urinal in the middle of the dinner tray is NOT proper food hygiene practices! I told a friend who's a doctor, she was mortified. To be fair it seems rather common for hospitals to put urinals either on or around the food tray, something that needs to be changed - everywhere. Also, several times he was left unable to summon assistance.
The ONLY reason I'm giving TWO stars - the urologist and the cardiologist were amazing doctors. The Kitchen staff and food delivery folks are outstanding, seeing to special needs and requests with gusto to keep the patient as close to life-sustaining home protocols as possible - as long as the hospitalist complies with the patient's request to maintain a "regular diet" so they can best control their needs without the hospital telling him what he can or cannot have. Afterall, WE cured his diabetes (5+ years) something they nor any other hospital cannot claim so obviously we have better experience for his particular nutritional needs.
Which reminds me, drawing a finger stick of blood glucose when they were TOLD he'd just spilled cranberry juice on his hands then reacting to the "high glucose level" by attempted coercion to "sliding scale" is not a wise move. Thankfully he refused the insulin since his next lab shows his blood glucose was perfectly normal again. What would have happened had he given in to their repeated attempts at "sliding scale protocol" (she was upset when I asked "oh, do you...
Read moreMy wife and I have been dealing with Missouri Baptist since approximately October 2018, since we found out that she was pregnant. Her doctor has been amazing, throughout the whole process, but thatâs not the issue. Their billing department has cornered my wife 3 times now while sheâs been there for different doctorâs appointments, leaving her in tears after each visit. Their billing staff talks down to her, insults her, and demeans her with literally almost every breath. Today was the last straw. We switched insurance 3 times due to a change of employment for me because we went from coverage with one employer, to COBRA continuation coverage, to coverage with my new employer. This is not something we could avoid, and we explained it from the very beginning. Since the very first visit with their billing department she has felt uncomfortable even walking into their office, knowing that if something came up, they would be rude and aggressive in whatever attempts they made to âget their money.â We were told everything was being billed as a âglobal feeâ and we made all the payments we were supposed to and were paid in full. Then after zero further correspondence today my wife at her appointment, again getâs ambushed and cornered by their aggressive billing staff. I was on the phone with her listening to Ann speaking to my wife like she was some kind of degenerate, being extremely pushy and aggressive while she was in the examination room with our 3 month old baby while he was crying, sitting in his own feces, because she had been cornered so long, she wasnât even able to change his diaper. After them shoving a new invoice in her face, stating that we owe an additional $1800, and telling us theyâll give us 3 months to pay it, after having no notice prior to the appointment, knowing full well that we just paid almost $3,000 for COBRA coverage, paying the rest of the doctors bills over the past 12 months, all while going from a 2 income family to a 1 income family. After I told her what we could afford to pay per month, she scoffed stating, âum that will take over a year to pay off.â And I (being on speakerphone) explained multiple times, that that is what we can afford to pay at this time. They returned with the paperwork for my wife to sign, again while making comments under her breath about the period of time it would take for us to pay the due amount. My wife now, regardless of how much she loves her doctor, feels so uncomfortable even walking in that building that she wonât be going back. We will be switching to another doctor just 3 months after she gave birth because the billing staff at Missouri Baptist lack people skills and any tact whatsoever while dealing with people who have just gone through the biggest change, emotionally and financially of their lives. We will never return to this hospital, for any reason, ever, because of 2 or 3 people. I already filed one formal complaint and was told we would no longer have to deal with Cathy again, even though Cathy came into the office multiple times today while my wife was already stressed and uncomfortable, just to put in...
Read moreMaybe this Is not the hospital to go to if youâre queer. I can see every other room getting checked on and waited on. Iâve heard the room next to me get 3 coffees and snacks. Iâve pressed my call button 5 times because I havenât eaten or drank since yesterday breakfast and I feel very faint. I'm seeing sparkles and feeling dizzy. Since no one would come to my room after hitting the call button multiple times. I unhooked myself and walked to the nurses station. When I started to tell Robyn I was faint and Dizzy and needed help she proceeded to pick up a phone and cut me off mid sentence. Only to watch me struggle standing there while she finished her clearly important call. Then never looked up at me and said âweâll check it.â Never looked up at me and I slowly fumbled my way back to my room where I ended up falling and hitting my head since no one walked me back or even came to check on me. I Have a nice goose egg to show for it. After I fell and got back up on the bed no one came to check on me for 3 hours. Even though Robyn stated âweâll check itâ in regards to my blood sugar. I was only finally given care or attention when my heart rate shot to 185 and I was convulsing, struggling to breathe and lost control of my arms and legs for almost an hour due to hyperventilating they said. My hands curled up like crab claws and I couldnât open them or lift my arms and legs. They informed me afterwards I had a very severe panic attic. WOW I wonder why that would be? Maybe because Iâm at the ER asking for basic care and was dismissed like I wasnât worth anything and was left unattended whilst faint and injured myself in their supposed care. I just canât believe I was in an ER and no one attended to me when my machine was alarming saying my heart rate and blood pressure were both elevated enough to sound the alarm. I used my half claw hand to repeatedly hit the call button and no one came. I involuntarily started yelling and sobbing from the pain and fear before anyone actually come to the room. I have never had such a severe panic attack like this, I didnât even recognize it as that. I truly thought I was going to die right then and there. I was checked into a room at 8:30, doctor ordered MRI at 9am. I waited 12 hours for my MRI to be done at 9pm and then waited until 2:15 am to be told they wonât have results for me and I can go home. Why did they make me wait 4 hours to tell me what they already knew which was that my results would not be ready. They also listed that they gave me more injections than what they...
