It is with a heavy heart that I have to write this. LGG{Lake Geneva Games) was a great store when it first opened up. Back in 2011 I started going right around the time of their 1 year anniversary and people were there both Friday and Saturday until 1-2 am and back there at noon. There was always people to play games with and most got along.
After 2013 Jason was burned by someone stealing from him and he took it out on the community. He made a banned list of EDH cards people weren't allowed to play in the store at all. If you were playing with just your friends not even in a store sponsored event he would ask you to leave the building for playing those cards, Happened to me.
In spring 2015 Jason, the store owner, tried to sell the shop but had 2 potential buyers walk away when he refused to negotiate a price claiming "Lake geneva games has a reputation I built", in actuality he wanted retail for all the product in the store instead of what he paid for it.
After that Jason started hiring "Managers" Ken was a good guy but not able to keep up with the prices of MTG cards changing. Then came Mark.
Mark is an old school gamer who knows it all. The first time I talked with him in summer of 2016 he made a comment about my older brother that had no place in dealing with a customer. I had been going less and less to the store at this point but it solidified my choice to attend FNM and MTG events at other stores. During this time many of the MTG players stopped going to LGG all together due to questionable management choices. Support for other TCGs(mainly Force of will) was tightened and promos were not given out at a steady pace or at all thus causing people to loose interest in coming to the store and attendance waned, causing them to just get their own product from online and draft/play at a resturant that openly invited them. After seeing a friend be told to take a "break" from the store for speaking up about someone spending more then they should, I stopped going to play MTG all together on saturday nights and just went to other games stores.
Today on December 22nd I stopped by to see who was there and catch up I was asked "to take a break from the store" after having not been there for about 3 months, by the manager Mark because I spoke honestly about the MTG community getting smaller and smaller when the store refuses to do anything to change it.
If you are in the area check out stores in Kenosha WI or Antioch iL. Better prices better selections and better communities.
Attached is a list of "events" that I was at since 2015 that my DCI number was used to fill out the stores events and make it look like more people were there then...
Read moreI had a bad experience with the store owner. It was my first time going to Lake Geneva Games. I went on a game day with my wife and daughter. The store oner was rude and disrespectful. He was logging DCI numbers for regular patrons not playing in the game day and hoarding the promo cards for sale in his store and on his website. This is a huge violation of wotc policy. My wife and I in addition to signing up to play in the game day requested to purchase 2 of the new 2019 planeswalker decks. The owmer said he would only give us one promo card for the two of us. When I questioned him on this he was rude. He threw us out and refused to sell us anything. I will not be back. I will be reporting this...
Read moreMy former mom-and-pop-style local gaming store closed down, and I thought that my gaming days were over. I am not the prototypical "power gamer," but this shop and its people took the time to make me feel like I've found a home, again. They have mini mats, figurines, and painting materials; they have roleplaying books, dice, DM helpers; and they have Magic: the Gathering cards, sleeves, boxes, and more...and that says nothing about the bevy of board games! Nor does it speak to the helpful and personable people minding the shop. Again, I'm no power gamer, but I try to patronize them when I can: I'm tired of these cool little...
