If you can go to Wal-Mart (Wally World) in Riverhead or Target off Horseblock, go. Otherwise, take an "L" and go to this Wal-Mart. (I'm giving this place three stars instead of one because of Robin and one or two other thoughtful employees at this location who make this place tolerable.)
The Bad:
Limited Item Selection
I thought Wally Worlds would have every miscellaneous item you can think of. For instance, back home (Germantown, MD), the Wally World had Boric Acid (keeps not just roaches away, but water-bugs, domestic centipedes, etc.), Black Flag (an insecticide, which I swear by), and gallon-size jugs of generic-brand, purified drinking water. (I don't mind drinking the tap water in my location, but girlfriend does, however.) The Walmart off Middle Island does not have, specifically, these sort of items. One associate even recommended CVS instead: "I'm sure they carry boric acid." (Seriously? CVS Wal-Mart?)
(Note: I forget what else I couldn't buy at this Wally World that I ended up getting from Target off Horseblock Rd.)
Sparse Restocking
You'll regularly find empty shelves in lieu of the product you're looking for at this Wally World.
Dichotomy of Rude and Courteous Staff
"Robin," who works in the home goods section, I believe, should serve as a model to follow in terms of customer service. She was willing to help me locate an item, and even recommend products according to her personal use of them. But then there's the leading staff member at the photography section, who will insult you by performing basic math--with her fingers, in your face."You do know one set of the passport photos is two? And if you need three photos, you'll have to purchase two sets? And if you each need two sets that will be four sets total?" I'm not sure if it was because I'm black or if she just wanted to show off her basic math skills and manicure--but, seriously, I was waiting for the woman to pull out an abacus.
To cement the point of a dichotomy of rude and courteous, there was a pharmacist or pharmacy technician who was rude initially: "What do you want?" But after I parried her salutation with an actual salutation ("Good Morning! How are you?"), she became a concerned human being again and was able to answer my question and provide a more reasonable alternative of the same product I queried about.
The Good:
Some Courteous Staff
I think I'm being kind when I say fifty-percent of the staff are courteous.
They Employ A Lot of Special Needs Individuals
A great place of employment for those individuals. However, you might spend a day and a half in line as that individual carefully and neatly opens each plastic bag to delicately place your items in. (I'm pretty patient, so I...
Read moreI came into this location Nobody had explained to me that my oil plug was stripped before my car was worked on. I then went to go get another oil change after the miles were up at another Walmart they refused to do my oil change after assessing my carbecause whoever did my oil Change prior strip the bolt . I then talk to a manager by the name of Matt, who told me that they apologize about the inconvenience and they will take care of the bill plus the oil change from any mechanic that I choose. I then went to go get the part fixed and Walmart is now refusing to Pay for it to be fixed, and stating that my car was damaged Before they worked on it . Do yourself a favor and do not come here to get an oil change after we went to spoke to them again The guy in the auto department stated that they will fix it if we buy the part and then the next person I spoke to said that they don’t have the tools to fix it clearly, no one back there knows what’s going on. On the plus side, we did have a wonderful woman by the name of Colette that worked in the returns department. That woman deserves a raise. She knows everything about customer service. She was honest apologetic and tried to do anything she could to resolve the problem within the range that she could handle Truly feel like this woman deserves a raise because she knows how to handle customer service shout out to Colette for being amazing.
To some of this up, I still no longer have a vehicle a $700 bill and now I have to wait. God only knows how long for the insurance department to get in touch with me. Do yourself a favor and save the headache and pay a few extra dollars somewhere else for more skilled mechanics Who have better work ethic and take accountability for an accident...
Read moreI wish I could give negative stars! I found a very affordable portable air conditioner on their website and I just wanted to know which location had it in stock, if not this one. So I asked someone who appeared to be a manager and he told me I would have to look it up myself and try one store at a time to find it. Or it may be online only. Because I couldn't get a cellular signal in this store, I asked if they had a computer where this could be looked up and also if there was a way to look up the item and see where it was in stock instead of guessing on each store. He said no, there's no computer. I was in disbelief because I don't understand how a giant corporation like Walmart doesn't have a single computer in their store to manage inventory and keep track of their products. So I politely pressed him a little and said "Really, you don't have a computer here? At the register or anywhere?" Then he got annoyed and replied "Excuse me? You asked me a question and I answered it. Go look it up yourself!" On my way out, I asked a regular worker the same question. She was able to find the item on her phone and told me it was available online only. I guess Mr. Bigshot was too busy to be bothered doing that for a little pee-on customer. Kudos to the girl who actually made the effort and answered the question, but this manager needs to be disciplined by the company and I will now make a point to never shop at...
