Bikeway — Local services in Town of Carmel

We were on a family ride today when my adult son’s derailleur basically disintegrated on the North County Trail. He walked it up the a CVS parking lot, pulled out the phone map and searched for the nearest bike store. Good fortune smiled down and Bikeway was literally next to the CVS. The people who work there and the owner were AMAZING. 60 seconds after walking in, the bike was up on the lift being worked on. At 1st, the tech offered to repair it, make it short term rideable as he didn’t have the same level derailleur in stock. The owner found one that was a lower quality but perfectly good for the type or easy city riding my son usually does. While they worked, a super nice sales person helped me pick and install a bell and light for my new bike (only a couple weeks old) as I wanted to give them additional business. 25 minutes after we walked in, we rode away with a new derailleur riding perfectly, all done at a fair price and truly impeccable service. In these strange days it's really nice knowing some businesses got your back. Meryl took in my Specialized Roll bike, quickly assessed what might be needed, was very informative on pricing and timing. Enrique was the mechanic who worked on it. He texted me midway through suggesting I should have the rear brake cable changed out, which I much appreciated. It's been three years but I honestly think it rides better now than when I first bought it. John was terrific on the back end handling the transaction while keeping social distancing protocols in place. He even mounted my bike to the rack and had me confirm it was secure.
