I sought care at Strong West for acute back pain. I was barely able to walk. I was attended to by Eric Mundt, PA. I was initially given a pain medication "cocktail" which did not impact my level of pain. We discussed narcotics and i was told they are not an effective long term care choice. I explained to PA Mundt that due to my job that would not be a long term choice for me, as it could be a liability. He proceeded to make an off comment on how I have an easy/sedentary job (which I found belittling as I have a very active, high stress job). Since the initial medications I was given, weren't effective, he stated he was going to give me two oxycodones and left. I pulled up a note from my last visit to the emergency department at Unity Health, in 2020, and called a nurse and asked if PA Mundt would be open to giving me those medications instead, as they have worked in the past. I was told he was processing my discharge papers and he would not give me those medications because that meant I would have had to stay there longer. He said since i have a history of back problems they weren't going to do any imaging and one of the nurses sarcastically commented that they dont do emergency back surgery. Even my regular doctor said that was negligent.
Tonight I reviewed the note for the visit. He charted a note indicating that he discussed with me that I was already using a lot of the medications that are indicated for my back pain condition. He stated he explained that narcotic medications are not a good long-term fix but he was willing to give me a dose of oxycodone.
He charted a note stating that he discussed with me that narcotics were not the best treatment but failed to annotate that I refused them because of my job; a note which can give the impression that I just wanted "drugs." I am appalled, not only at the lack of fair assessment and treatment, but the complete disregard...
Read moreMy daughter came to the ER yesterday morning. 12 wks pregnant, not able to urinate much, pain in abdomen. Dr checked heart and lungs, took urine. Said it was a UTI. Never ultrasounded bladder that was clearly full. Sent her home with antibiotics and told her to drink water. Returned to ER 3 hrs later when she was in unbearable pain. Unable to urinate. Made her wait in this unbearable pain until she passed out. Tried to do a EKG but stickers wouldn’t stay on because of her profuse sweating (the sweating is an indicator that her body is in extreme stress)and finally did an ultrasound, saw her bladder was unbelievable full and put a catheter in. New Dr checked blood this time and white blood count was very high. Eventually was transfer to Unity , thank god because she had a rare condition on top of a kidney infection. Kidney infection happened because of her urine retention. Her bladder was dangerously close to rupturing. 2 problems. The first Dr should have checked her blood, did an ultrasound and if that had happened she would have avoid the kidney infection and all the pain she suffered. Staff was unsympathetic except for 1 or 2. You are a hospital not an urgent care. Act like it. Take the time with a patient, listen to them and nobody should experience that amount of pain, in a hospital and treated with indifference. The second Dr worked hard to help her finally. Most of this could have been avoid if YOU had...
Read moreWe recently brought our 11 year old daughter here for the first time for out patient surgery. We’ve always normally gone to Sawgrass. Due to her extensive medical history I had spoken to several people the week before her procedure to get a plan for my daughter because of her anxiety. Long story short, we get there and no one has any clue about any plans, nor do they care to hear me talk about it. I kept my cool 100% only to protect my daughters mental health, but I was beyond mad! The nurse we had was just ok. Didn’t seem like a nurse that works with children at all. The anesthesiologist refused to be discreet around my daughter about her medical care as to not add to her anxiety, listen to me, or not be loud and obnoxious. She was by far the worst anesthesiologist I have ever encountered for any of my daughters surgeries. I did complain to the head nurse after my daughter went in the OR screaming and crying for me, which is something I’ve never done. The nurse promised it would be taken care of. I can’t say I’m surprised at all that I haven’t heard anything...
