NY Landscape Lighting — Local services in Town of Cortlandt

I know I'm in the minority here, but I feel compelled to share my frustrating experience with this lighting company.

The Good: The install guys are awesome - super friendly and helpful. Credit where it's due. They are the only reason this isn't one star.

The Bad: Payment Issues: I asked to pay in 2 parts, which is totally normal for a $10,000 job. When the lighting wasn't working right, I held off on the first payment (for 5 whole days) until it was fixed. Once fixed, I offered the first half, but they demanded the full amount. As a new homeowner with a pregnant wife and a new home, I asked again to split the payment as initially agreed. Their response? Angry yelling and talking over me about how I owe them everything now. How does getting that $2500 two weeks earlier help them more than it hurts me?

"Premium" System Limitations: For the insane amount you pay, you'd expect some basics, right? Wrong.

-No on/off switch. None. -No remote control. Every cheap LED I've bought has one, but not this "premium" system. -The only way to control it? A complex and glitchy app. Hope you like teaching every guest how to use your lights!

Customer Service: When issues came up regarding payment, instead of understanding and working with me, I got attitude and inflexibility. Talking over me, yelling. Not exactly the "premium" experience I was expecting for the price.

Guest Nightmare: Want to rent your place or have visitors? Good luck. They'll need to download and figure out this annoying app just to turn on the lights. Imagine explaining that to your Airbnb guests or your tech-challenged relatives. Nope, not a simple switch! Why we we do that?

Power Outage fun: Lose power? Prepare for a 10-15 minute adventure in the dark. You'll be outside pushing buttons and reactivating pairing mode just to get your lights working again. Because that's exactly what you want to do when the power comes back on, right?

Look, I get that some people seem to like their service. But for me? It was a big, expensive disappointment. A basic on/off switch shouldn't be too much to ask for when you're shelling out this kind of money. If you're considering this company, think hard about whether you're ready to deal with...

We had a lighting job done by this company 1 year ago and right now the issues are piling up. We were happy with them and their installation at first, very efficient and professional. BUT troubles arrived after a few months. They have convinced us to pay for their "Platinum Lighting Plan" which includes (terms of the contract): All fixtures 20 year warranty. Transformers Lifetime Warranty. Labor Warranty- 3 years.

At the first issue, they charged us only for the labor. At the second issue, they have come up with the conclusion that a lightning storm had affected our whole house (no issues whatsoever with any other appliance/fixture in the house) and refused to follow the warranty guarantee because as stated by their one-line answer to our request for information and details on the warranty: "Unfortunately acts of god aren’t considered under warranty"

Given that our lights were off for a couple months, we had them come fix it and their workers came up with a TOTAL different explanation while fixing it and just stating that it often happens... Their billing process is very weird and may contains errors. To this day, we are still waiting for an answer on what the "Platinum worry-free" warranty actually covers...

We just had our landscape lighting done by NY Landscape Lighting and WOW!!! what an amazing job! I can't just tell you how awesome they are i have to tell a story..... We've used many contractors for many things and we have never experienced this kind of customer service EVER! We've been looking for a landscape lighting company and I was scrolling through social media and an ad came up and the the photo was amazing. Reached out to make an appt for an estimate and our appointment was for 2 days after we called. NY Landscaping uses a notification system - that notifies you who (by name) is on their way, what they are coming for, when they are finished - the entire process was really professional! and the work (lighting) they did at our house was AMAZING and made our home look so BEAUTIFUL!!!!! they are professional, clean, honest, responsive, accommodating. After the job was finished the team came back in the evening to make sure it was right. We've enjoyed every experience with NY Landscape Lighting and looking forward to working with them again.
