I don't like writing bad reviews, but I had such a terrible experience here that I had to warn others. Let me say that the owner, Teresa, always seemed like a nice person so that is one of the reasons I am so greatly disappointed. I brought the dress I bought to wear to my son's wedding in for alternations. She was to cut it down from long to cocktail length and was going to use the extra material to make a belt. First, in my opinion, the cost of the alternation was extremely expensive, but it was for my son's wedding so I didn't want to cheap out. In this case I definitely did not get what I paid for. The dress was supposed to be ready three and a half weeks later. When I went, it was not ready nor was it ready when I went to pick it up the second time. Finally, on the third go round, it was. When I tried the dress on, it barely zipped. up. The dress was kind of snug when I bought it, but I had lost 15 pounds and the dress was tighter than before. Apparently, she made the belt smaller than the waist of the dress! So I had to leave the dress again. A week later I go pick up the dress and it fits, but it is still snug. Also, at the base of the zipper the material bunched up in a weird way. I didn't think it was going to be noticeable and now I had no more time so I let it go. Unfortunately, it was! Upon further investigation, my husband and I noticed that the material had been stitched together. When I brought it up to Teresa, she told me that the stitching had always been there. If the dress had bunched up like that, I would have never bought it, and no one who saw me in the dress prior to the alterations remember seeing it. Additionally, the stitches that caused the material to bunch up does not match any other of the stitches on the dress. I, honestly, can come up with no other explanation than she put it there for whatever reason. I am disappointed on many different levels and will never go back to this shop. I caution you...
Read moreWe have always been very happy here with the alterations. I recently had an experience, however, which would make me not return.
I recently purchased a sportcoat for a special occasion. I have lost weight recently, and the coat was in a size smaller than I was used to wearing. I carefully tried on the coat and it fit well but needed a half an inch or an inch across the midsection to be able to button and be comfortable. The person who sold me the jacket told me and I agreed that if we went up size it would really swim on me.
I took it to the urban tailor to show it to her. She made a comment to me that in my mind was extremely insensitive. Knowing everything I said about the coat fitting, except in one way her words to me were “why so small?”. I was crushed and really did not even want the coat which I have since returned.
There is a way to talk to customers in a more subtle way. She told me afterward that it was easier to take things in and let them out and encourage me to get a larger size, but I gave up on the whole thing.
She may be technically excellent but ruined my day and my experience with what she said and the way,...
Read moreVery worried about the owner and this business. They used to be great, but have gone WAY down and they do not care about customers anymore. I brought my daughter’s dress there to be tailored. It was simple alterations this business has done many times for us over the years. The owner said it would take a week. I went back she said she has been too busy and needed another week. I went back the next week she again said so sorry it’s not completed. She told me to come back in a few days. I went back the 3rd TIME it still wasn’t completed. My daughter couldn’t even wear this dress to the event because the incompetent and uncaring owner didn’t complete the work in time. It should not take any tailor in Guilderland 1 month to make simple alterations on a dress. If she just told me it would take a month I would have never gone there. This has to be one of the worst businesses in town. Don’t go...
