I had a mahi mahi fish taco at Fin at the Troy Farmer’s Market. It was good - the fish was fresh and cooked well. The taco ensemble itself with cabbage slaw was somewhat lacking in flavor. But the reason I leave a three star review were the staff at the venue, who seemed to have an issue answering a simple question about what was in the fish taco - I received a facetious response of “fish,” and was then directed to their chalkboard which in fact did not list the additional ingredients in the taco. After a couple seconds of a blank stare, the woman who seemed to be in charge got the hint and actually explained the item. We saw some condiments at the table and decided to try some remoulade on the taco, because we like condiments. We liked the remoulade with the taco, and in fact this is how I make fish tacos at home. We were told the ingredients but also told “the fish tacos are meant to be eaten as is, and the remoulade is for crab cakes.” I’m sorry but if your customer likes some condiments on their taco, you let them eat it that way. Because not everyone likes a pretentiously bland fish taco, and your customer just paid for it. Your staff need some training in proper...
Read moreI had a wonderful experience when I stopped in for lunch a couple of days ago and only wish I had come here sooner. The space itself is also a market selling all kinds of fish, sides, ready to heat entrees, and much more. It is open, bright, and inviting with kind and friendly employees welcoming you. There are a handful of tables if you are ordering a meal and would like to dine in. Finally, the food itself. I am only sad that I have missed out on all those other times I could have been enjoying this food and kept forgetting to stop in. The fish itself (haddock) was some of the best I have had. The wine batter definitely elevated the flavor and was unlike anything I have had before. It was crunchy, tender, and absolutely delicious. Fries were great too - crispy and with just the right amount of salt (I dip mine in malt vinegar). Enjoyed the coleslaw as well. It had more of a vinegar base, which I do enjoy. And the price! Only $15 for all of this food seems like a steal right now. Bring cash if you can. They do as most do these days and charge a bit more for credit. Highly,...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in for the first time this past Saturday and smiled when we saw the sign for Fin Your Fishmonger! Had to go in and look. Left for a few and came back and ordered the smoked bay scallops, smoked salmon and smoked bluefish because we didn't have a cold bag to bring fish back to the house 45 minutes away.
The scallops, salmon and bluefish were absolutely delicious and will be a regular order for us. The store was clean and charming and didn't have any objectionable odors. The young lady who helped us was sweet as can be and engaging! Very rare these days with the younger folks.
Nice selection of fish and it looked fresh. We also noted they were bringing in some fresh cases of product. Next visit we will be prepared with a cold bag or 2 and some ice packs.
Going to try the fish...
