Our experience at the Gem Lab was extremely positive and I couldn't be happier to have found my engagement ring here. My boyfriend wanted me to pick out my engagement ring (thanks honey!) while we're currently living in different states. I had shopped around Rochester at other jewelers while also looking at Gem Lab. Compared to Cornell's and Mann's, the Gem Lab was BY FAR the friendliest, easiest to work with and most professional. I was treated very rudely at Cornell's (not greeted for a long time, spoken down to, made to feel like my healthy budget was still nothing) and was basically ignored at Mann's (they spent less than 5 minutes with me and never returned emails).

At Gem Lab we dealt with Kate Kaplan, who was always polite and took her time to answer all of my questions thoroughly, even explaining above and beyond my questioning. You can tell she loves her work and helping people find what they will cherish forever. Her level of communication was refreshing and truly appreciated. She was always quick to respond to emails and calls and made it easy for my boyfriend to get payment and shipping handled. We even received a military discount. Everything was transparent and several options were entertained without the pressure to make decisions. Never did we feel like we were being rushed or misled or getting ripped off. The pricing is very fair and the rings arrived beautifully packaged! I can't wait to wear them forever, they're so beautiful!!

If finding a conflict-free diamond is important to you, they do have lab grown diamonds that are equally as amazing as mined diamonds and they can order either kind for you if they don't have what you're looking for already in store.

I've been so pleased with my experience there that I also brought in vintage pearl earrings I plan to wear on my wedding day to be reset. Turn around time was a quick 3 days.

I recently worked with Paul and The Gem Lab team to design and create a custom engagement ring for my (now) fiance. My experience with the Gem Lab was rather unique in that I am originally from Rochester, but am currently residing in Chicago, and thus had to work with their team remotely via email, phone, text, Facetime, etc.... but man was I impressed. The Gem Lab staff was incredibly attentive, responsive, organized, and thoughtful and made my experience as amazing as I could ever imagine. Despite not being local, I was able to be involved throughout all parts of the process (CAD design, modifications, changes, finishing etc..) and was thrilled with the service I received from Paul. In an era when many jewelers have gone on-line and customer service has fallen by the way-side, The Gem Lab stands out like a brilliant diamond. When I dreamed of the engagement ring I wanted to present to my fiance, I never thought it would be as beautiful of the one The Gem Lab produced for me. The team helped produce CAD drawings so that I could see a model of what the ring would look like prior to production, and assisted me in making modifications as necessary. They provided me with professional photographs and videos of the ring so that I would have them forever. Paul's expertise in gemology and jewelry design was unparalleled and he provided tons of excellent advice to ensure my ring was everything I had hoped it to be. The finished product was beyond my wildest imagination and I can confidently say I would never go anywhere else (or recommend anywhere else) in Rochester to get my jewelry, or to design any new pieces I might desire. She kept me up to speed on progress and proceeded to follow up on multiple occasions to ensure that the ring was exactly what we were looking for (even post-delivery).
