Such a wonderful place. First off, they get some really interesting/eclectic shows. I've seen Henry Rollins, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Craig Finn and Soul Asylum at this venue. I mean GY!BE and Craig Finn are incredibly cool acts that you'd typically only be able to see in BIG cities. We're lucky to get them in the area at all, let alone in small town Homer. I've also missed a few really great acts and there have been all types of other shows that I'm sure someone with different tastes would be equally excited about. They really get quite a variety.
Now the venue itself. It's an old church, it has good acoustics and a welcoming, inclusive feel. It does feel like being in a church with your fellow worshippers of music. Intimate is an understatement. It's all general admission and they give you post it notes to hold your seat, very cool. The vibe is great, it all feels very civilized for lack of a better word. It's a non-profit and every working there is a volunteer. There is a nice RCF line array that sounds great. Every show I've seen there has had excellent sound. Architecturally, it's gorgeous. There is art all over the hallways and bathrooms, plenty to look at before the show. Drinks/snacks are good and reasonably priced. Coffee is from Coffee Mania, which is local and excellent. I didn't have any alcohol at this most recent show, but at past shows I remember local beer and wine. The fries always look really good. There is a large bar/merch/hangout area. Before the show, local acts will play in here. After the show, the headliners will sometimes come out to talk at the merch table. It's just a wonderful place and we're lucky to have something like...
Read moreThe establishment itself is fine. However, I purchased a ticket for a show that was advertised as general admission, then upon receipt via email, I was given an assigned seat number. Which caused me to attend the show by myself as the other people that were going to meet me there changed their mind about going, as there was no way we would be able to sit together. Now, I understand things can get mixed up, however no effort was made at all to assist in this situation. I would have at least expected a refund for my ticket so I could then purchase the tickets for everyone else that was going to meet me there so we could all sit together. I was basically told sorry for the inconvenience and it was left at that. I could see if it was an error on my part that nothing could be done, but being I was shown general admission at purchase and then received an assigned seat I feel at least something could have been done to fix their error. I was told they were aware of the issue and were fixing it. About 2 weeks later I check the website again just to see if they did fix it and they still haven't fixed it. This was my first experience there, I also drove 2 and a half hours to be there. I highly doubt I'll make another trip there for...
Read moreThe best thing about this venue is the woman who runs it, Sheila. She seems to be the beating heart of the venue. I arrived early, concerned about the fact that I was stuck with my dog in my climate controlled camper van for the concert I was attending the following day I decided to drive down there and speak to her and see if she could recommend a good parking place to make sure that I would be parked close to the venue. Not only did she secure me the closest parking spot imaginable, she also allowed me to come and go from the event to make sure allow me to check in on my dog. On top of that, she helped me get a good seat close to the front knowing that this is my favorite band. She just made such a big difference in my experience I can’t thank her enough. Beyond her, the acoustics were absolutely incredible the intimate setting was like I’ve never experienced in my entire life I’ve seen the same band maybe 15 times but never in such a unique intimate setting. It’s beautiful the story behind how the Center for the Arts Was created 20 years ago I was just incredible. The town of Homer is so quaint has such amazing architecture the old homes are so beautiful I wish I could stay...
