First time visiting the Forest Pork Store and it will not be the last! This is a great old fashioned German Bucher shop!
Food: There is a fantastic display of fresh meat, with every kind of cut you could want and there is a freezer full of cuts as well. The real star here is the German sausages, the franks, the salami and the hamburgers! We got some salami to snack on and I have to say the pepper corn and garlic salami slapped! Then later we had some franks and some of the hamburgers and all I can say is WOW!
The Staff: The staff here are very polite and attentive. The staff were all dressed very professional with bucher shirts, aprons and a bucher's hat!
Store Layout: When you enter you are presented with an old style store front and they carry a number of German products such as Kuchen and stollen as well as Knorr packet products and a variety of fizzy drinks in thr fridges. The buckers area is to the back of the store and you collect your ticket as you line up and the staff will be right with you! Once you collect your meat they will gove you a ticket and you can make your way to the check out and you exit through a separate door from which you entered.
Overall Experience: I highly recommend stopping by the Forest Pork Store for authentic German sausages as well as quality meats! Its a little pricey however, its worth every penny! I know I will be back whenever we are visiting family on...
Read moreWe arrived shortly before closing on Tuesday evening. The store was empty and spotless clean. I asked if we could still come in and shop. The staff agreed and we quickly bought some of the best food ever. When checking out 20 minutes later it was several hundred dollars for the best knowledgeable, friendly and helpful service. We live in Massachusetts. We learned about the Forest Pork Store through a German store in Massachusetts, which has closed permanently. So we drove to Long Island with all the traffic and construction on the way. My husband is a chef since his young years in Germany, even made a meal for chancellor Schmidt from Hamburg. The products we bought yesterday were out of this world, authentic, well spiced, best quality. We arrived back home around 11 PM and had to try. What a treat!!! Everything we tried then and today is outstanding quality!!! It is perfectly spiced, just delicious. We felt like in heaven eating such excellent food. We also learned that the store ships during the colder season. We will take advantage of it. Altogether this was a perfect experience: clean store, excellent food products, friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable staff aware of the German names though not speaking German. We can only rate this experience and the store...
Read moreWhen I was little, my Oma and Opa would bring products from the Forest Pork Store out to Montauk for us. As I got old enough to stay with them for a week up island, they would bring me to the Huntington Station store, where they'd order from the butchers in German. They'd known the place in Queens and started coming to the Huntington location when they move out to the island. Now I'm forty and I still make sure I stop by a couple of times a year for the fabulous liverwurst (get the kind with goose liver added), salami (seasoned differently than Italian salamies), rye bread (without caraway and with a wonderful dark crust), and other german products. They have some lovely wursts and great hot dogs. Also, you can get a lot of chocolates, gummies, candies, and marzipan--even more selection if you go near Christmas or Easter. The beer selection is not vast, but it is quality. If you've never been, I highly recommend you check out the Forest Pork Store. It's a delicious relic from a previous era and worth experiencing while...
