Bloom Fine Gardening — Local services in Town of New Paltz

We hired Bloom Fine in early 2023 to re-design our fairly raw half-acre yard (5 garden areas, new lawn, and light hardscaping). The experience started off promising: Liz and the team were responsive, thoughtful, and professional. However, the process became slow and surprisingly un-collaborative. After procuring the land survey they required (which added two months), it took another 3.5 months to receive a final plan - even after multiple follow-ups. The final design was solid, but communication was minimal, and we only spoke/met directly with Liz ~twice. When we voiced frustration with the slow pace, we were told there had been “a lot of back and forth,” which didn’t match our experience - we largely accepted what was proposed with very little revision at each stage. By late summer, as the installation window approached, we were hesitant to suggest any meaningful changes due to the delays. In the end, we were happy enough with the final design.

Although we communicated our total budget from the start, the install quote we received was nearly double our budget - and double what other residential landscapers ended up quoting. This was, by their own estimate, a ~$40K landscaping project, so we were surprised there wasn’t more collaboration, urgency, timeline communication, and hands-on involvement throughout the process. It was also frustrating that the disconnect around budget wasn’t flagged earlier in the design phase. We ultimately hired a different team who completed the project faster and within budget, without needing to scale things back.

In summary: Bloom Fine has good design sensibility, but the pace, collaboration, and pricing didn’t align with our expectations for a full-service landscaping design firm. They may be a better fit for smaller or premium projects where budget and timing are less critical, or for design-only engagements. Liz is an absolute genius when it comes to gardening and landscape architecture. The colours And the vision that she created for me were far beyond my expectation. She planted the proper trees to deter deer From ruining my garden as well as gave privacy to my property in the classiest way. Bloom’s entire team was a pleasure to work with and we couldn’t be happier with the work the Bloom team did for us. We worked with Bloom to update several of our landscape beds around the home. Liz took time to walk our full property in Winter and provided her suggestions. After aligning on a plan, we were curious how everything would turn out. Hunter and his crew were some of the hardest working I have encountered - they kept me updated about the project and progress regularly and worked the entire week with a smile on their faces in 80 degree July weather!
