When we were getting tired driving north at about 9 pm and I went to look up Hotels and around Poughkeepsie or Hyde Park, so that we could overnight and maybe see something a little bit interesting the next day before we carried on, the app I was using gave me America’s best value, and it was in new Paltz. Which I had only ever heard of, but knew nothing about. it offered the best rates so we went with it. It’s right off the highway which was such a relief. Parking was pretty easy.
And what a delight. Even though we got there, and it was 11 o’clock, the front desk was engaged, funny, empathic, and efficient. Upon walking in to the place, I expected it to be a regular low slung cheap motel, but what greeted me when I walked in, was a really nicely appointed, lobby that included a restaurant, comfy chairs, games to play, and a little convenience store.
When we got our room, we were impressed with the amount of space there was, the amenities were super nice, and everything was so wonderfully clean. The sheets were crisp, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and even the soaps and shower items weren’t your typical, they were much nicer - blends with lavender and mint. Even though it was right off the highway - we could see it from our window - we didn’t hear any traffic or highway noise in our room at all. The shower was fantastic - great settings and water pressure and temps.
Breakfast the next morning was varied and plentiful and it was a nice start to the day. And they provided ideas of things to do in New Paltz, so we got to see the town and experience the historical character as well. Checkout - again - nothing but easy and super nice and interested front desk staff. I’m also impressed that they are so digitally engaged - you can tip housekeeping from your phone if you don’t have the...
Read moreSmall and easy to overlook. Tucked between a much larger, newer, Hampton Inn and the raised street. The hotel itself was dated, but clean. Likewise, the room seemed tight, with two double beds, but there was enough room for the usual appointments. Oddly enough, the TV was very large. All-in-all, this would have been an adequate overnight, or even a couple of nights if you weren't stuck in the room for long stretches.
The biggest problem was with noisy neighbors, who thought their room was a good place to hold an all night rave. The bass was thumping until around 10:30, at witch point the revelers apparently went out. Not a big deal. Around 1:00 a.m. our neighbors returned and it became a big deal. By 2:30 I was irritated enough to knock on their door and politely ask them to put an end to the festivities. The weed smell when they cracked the door just about knocked me over. By 3:00 I was ready to formally complain to the night manager. She was less than helpful, having "just walked by there and not heard anything." To be fair, you did have to actually listen. If not for the fact that my daughter was somehow sleeping through all of this, I would have invited her into the room for a quick demonstration on how the doors were better insulated than the walls. Instead, I resigned myself to the "thump-thump" of the bass and the occasional hyena-like cackle of the very stoned. It went on until around 4:00 a.m.
Honestly, I wasn't going to hold one bad experience against the hotel, but between the (relatively) low price point, the college town location, and mostly management's reluctance to handle the situation, I have a feeling that this is not an isolated incident. Spend the extra money and stay at a...
Read moreOkay where do I start, upon checking in the receptionist was very pleasant with the affordability of the room I am being fair by giving them 1 star. I understand sometimes you get what you paid for but my experience was beyond absurd. We've checked in on 03/21/2021, we were told we got one of the best room, oh my thank you! You can imagine how happy we were. We went into the room, dropped off our things and went back outside handling out business. We came back that night tired, I've noticed the GIANT ANTS roaming in the bathroom. I killed a couple and honestly didn't have the energy to pay them no mind since it was not a bunch of them. When we Woke up the next day, my significant other and I noticed the giant ants all over the bathroom. We didn't say anything assuming housekeeping would come and cleaned up. Boy was I wrong. When we returned, they had taken over, they were in the bedroom area. I went to the front desk to report the issue, I was told they were aware of the situation and an exterminator will be there in the AM. First of all why would they give us an infested giant ants room knowing of the issue and to make matters even worst when I asked if they have some type of repellent I was told they do not. Okay fine, I was tired went back upstairs and I noticed the ants were crawling in the bed. I immediately went back downstairs to request another, thank God they didn't give us a hard time...
