Grace Music School — Local services in Town of Smithtown

Our 13- and 11-year-old daughters have been taking piano and voice lessons here since September 2023. I only have great things to say about Grace Music School.

1. Excellent facilities: There are more than enough classrooms to handle many lessons at the same time. There are also cameras in each room should you choose to watch your kid. The place is clean and bright, and all of the rooms are well-appointed.

2. Superior communication: Administrative staff is on top of anything that comes up. I haven't had an experience where an instructor has been out sick and they've had to cancel. They always seem to find a substitute. I can't guarantee that this is always the case for all, but it has impressed us since we started. We've been pretty good with staying on schedule, but in the couple of cases where we needed a different time or a makeup they've done everything possible to accommodate us.

3. Great teachers: The kids look forward to weekly lessons. We're seeing good progressive improvement. Their NYSSMA scores reflect this, and they sounded great at the recent recital. Dave and Caitlin are constantly addressing their challenges while giving them a variety of interesting music work with. The school also employs many instructors, which seems to make it a bit easier to cover instructor absences.

4. Reasonable prices: The monthly membership that covers all lessons is very fair here on Long Island. They also offer multi class or sibling discounts.

5. Recitals: They have an annual recital at Adelphi every year. It's a very nice event. In addition, because they have two schools and are a sizable operation, they offer multiple free recitals at their Woodbury school during the year.

6. Year-round lessons: While many schools or instructors close up shop or greatly limit hours during the summer, Grace continues operating as though nothing has changed. For people that will be home for most of the summer and want their kids to continue learning when off from school, the option to keep going is nice.

GMS is a very professional and welcoming environment with great teachers and staff. The atmosphere is non intimidating, there is plenty of seating available in the waiting area, large screens to watch lessons being taught, complimentary beverages while you wait and the all important WiFi 😊

There is no misrepresentation here - the teachers are highly educated in their field. My daughter has been taking lessons consistently for 3 to 4 different instruments over the past 3 years. Every instructor she has is well educated in their field, kind, welcoming, encouraging and truthful with constructive feedback. They work with her to set goals and help her to reach them.

In addition, they themselves are very talented as seen at the many performing opportunities offered to students throughout the year. The staff and the owners make a point to welcome you and enjoy good conversation and genuine interest in your child. I highly recommend...

My twins started music fun lessons in Grace Music School around 3 years old, almost 5 years later they still love their music lessons, enjoy music and making fantastic progress!

They love their music teachers, they like to practice at home and always look forward to seeing their music teachers and learning new songs! I am so impressed and very thankful for having these amazing teachers - Miss Caitlin, and Mr. Tom! We also want to thank Miss Allison, even though my daughter is not in her class anymore because of the schedule.

We love the concert/recital opportunities they have provided for the kids, the kids were always excited to perform on the stage, and gained great confidence and experiences!
