I don’t have an issue that this store is overpriced. I don’t have an issue with the store being too small. I don’t have an issue with the selection being to small. I don’t even have an issue with a lot of their prepared products being sold on or after their best before date. What I do have an issue with is that the store keeps terrible hours (they close at 7pm, whereas all of the other groceries stores in the Hamptons close much later). And most of all I have an issue with the manager specifically denying my sister entry when we arrived there at 7 and there were a lot of people still shopping in the store. We explained that we only wanted to get one thing (my sister has dietary restrictions and their prepared food is one of the few things she can eat), but the manager completely refuses saying that they close at 7pm and the workers want to go home. We would have been out faster than most of the people in the store but the manager refused. I know that the workers want to get home, but she would have been out sooner than other customers because she just wanted 1 thing, and we were literally here at 7pm. I know it’s our fault for showing up late, but it’s not like we were 5 minutes later, or two minutes late, or one minute late— we were there at 7. I know this review won’t matter because they will do business just fine anyway overcharging people, but the fact that the manager could have easily let us in and we would have been out faster than other people in the store was completely in-human and showed not a modicum of...
Read moreI had heard of Citarella as some sort of Shangri-La of gourmet grocery stores that existed somewhere out in the Hamptons and when I actually saw one, I had to stop and see if they were worth the hype. I was pleasantly surprised.
I actually stopped at two Citerellas on the same day (the other one was in East Hampton and it was much smaller). This location was very large for a store in the Hamptons and I found the selection to be excellent. Beyond the usual fresh baked goods and bread (I got a loaf of Pumpernickel), they have a huge selection of cheese, fresh veggies, and a fresh fish counter that rivals anything else I've seen on the island. I also noticed that they carry their own label of several staples like pasta sauce in a surprisingly large selection of flavors.
I was also pleased to find more than just the usual selection of diet soda which is how I secretly judge a stores selection. Overall, you can find the usual, the unusual, and something...
Read moreI had a very bad fall on the ramp as I left the store one morning, it was lightly raining and I went flying forward. Lots of blood and bandages and I had my leg on ice with severe pain, lots of bandages and canceled plans over Labor Day. They took my number and promised to check in on me. About 3 days later I was pretty upset that no one bothered to check on me or send me anything (I couldn’t drive) so I called. I told them how upset I was and all they said was I will call you back and confirmed my number! Well NO ONE ever had the decency to call and check on me! What kind of customer care is this. They certainly have lost my business! Never again!!! And be careful of their...
