I recently went to Marders to purchase deer resistant plantings for my East Hampton home. A lovely sales associate suggested rose bushes and said they were deer resistant. I had my landscaper pick them up for me and plant them. Within two days the roses were gone and upon further research I learned that rosebushes aren't deer resistant at all and in fact deer love them. The lovely sales associate did mention that she was new and I realize now that she was also inexperienced, but the shocking thing is that Marders has refused to do anything whatsoever to mitigate the problem. I had purchased 17 rose bushes and not just one. In my own business I know that I'm responsible for the errors of my employees and I always treat customers like I would want to be treated. I've since learned that Marders has a high turnover of staff and everyone should be warned that you purchase from them at your own risk because they aren't reputable even when they've erred in their advice to you...

Some of the staff is knowledgeable others are clearly not able to answer basic questions and just encourage you to purchase as much as they are able. I asked a woman if they carried a certain plant and she claimed they absolutely didn't have them, later on I found the exact ones I'd asked about. I realized when I got home that I was overcharged. The pot said one price and the receipt said another. It's my fault as I hadn't thought to check that such a reputable place would engage in such tactics. Everything else was wrung up correctly so I didn't notice the discrepancy when I heard the total and paid. I wasn't handed the itemized receipt, it was tucked into my box of plants. I tried calling and the staff member was hesitant - she didn't know what to do and wouldn't provide any answers or advice to resolve. This experience soured my opinion of this place. I'm so disappointed as I planned to be...
Read moreIf you love plants, flowers, and trees this place is literally nirvana! I could happily wander around here for at least an hour. Even my impatient kids are entertained for a good half hour. There are animals and lots of fun things to see, and they do amazing classes, lectures, etc. especially on Sundays with birds of prey. The container gardens they do are beyond stunning and if they are not in your budget they will serve as great inspiration. This is one of my go to spots for house and hostess gifts. Everything is gorgeous and some of my favorite plant pots are from here as they have really unusual and special ones. Their gift wrapping is really lovely too and often they have special items that you can't get elsewhere, like limited edition candles, etc. One of the most special shopping destinations in the...
