Have been using this Wegmans for many years and always always had good service these past few years. Of course have been tough because of price increases and product unavailability, but as I work in retail myself, I completely understand what the employee is working in the store going through and dealing with and certainly don't hold it against them. In fact, I give them credit for working even harder than they normally do That being said, this past 6 months I do have to say I have been somewhat disappointed with the level of customer service but only at checkout lines. The vast majority of these cases are instances. When I have gone through the checkout line and been checked out by young adult age I'd guess 18 to 25 , and well, of course this is not universal. I do have to say the vast majority of those interactions lack even basic customer service skills from the cashiers. They never seem to be smiling. They may ask you if you found everything okay, but that is such a generic and taught line at Wegmans that it really doesn't mean anything, especially with the tone that usually accompanies it. And yes I do understand that retail workers are tired. Believe me, I'm one of them. I manage a retail business for a corporate organization And understand the challenges that go with that. And I certainly am not saying this is something completely unique to Wegmans, however, it seems to be worse at Wegmans, especially this last 6 months or so, but that could just be because I go there more often than most other stores. I know this is something that is often out of control of management due to current labor shortages and other constraints retail businesses are currently facing but I still wanted to point out that it is occurring because well it cannot be fixed completely. I have found it my business that with some training I have been able to make great strides with some of my younger employees and frankly these young adults developing not just customer service but people skills in general that they are currently lacking is going to help them in life and not just at their current job. Just something for Wegmans to consider if you took the time to actually read this whole thing. Thank you and I hope that my opinion of the situation can give others a different perspective to look at who might be seeing things in a different light. Update: I just wanted to add that not only at Wegmans but almost all major retailers customer service has dropped off a cliff as I discussed earlier, And while I was holding out hope that the businesses may put more work into training that has not occurred the solution they have arrived at is using as much self checkout as possible and hiring employees for the lowest amount of money possible as it feels like retailers have basically come to the conclusion that people are going to come buy things either way whether they get good customer service or not and unfortunately when that spreads across the entire sector and getting customer service even decent customer service is a rarity, so consumers are not really left with many options and certainly no comparable options where they can shop and still receive customer service and get the same products. Although under United States law this is not a monopoly when large retailers all adapt the same principles the effects are the same and consumers are left without a decision. I just wanted to add this because I feel very discouraged that this is the direction companies are moving in but I will say at the business I run I make customer service the first thing I train my employees and well of course just like every other retail business my sales are down this past year they are not down nearly as much as the company average, and my boss has gotten numerous positive feedback about me and my employees and how much they enjoy going to the store because we are polite and kind to them while they are there. I hope Wegmans and other large retailers read this and at least consider what they are...
Read moreWegmans used to be a destination market, but sadly the Powers That Be seem to have changed their focus and it is no longer a pleasant experience. With each visit we are more disappointed. To put it bluntly, if we wanted to shop at a warehouse store we would shop at BJ's or Costco. Wegmans needs to realize that there are many people in the community who can afford to buy what they want to, and what we want to buy are the brands we like (and frankly, the Wegmans brand foods we've tried are not very good) and in the quantities we want.
On out last visit they had revamped the frozen foods section and every item we wanted was only available in very large Family Size. No thank you. They are continuously removing the brands we are loyal to, and we find ourselves shopping more and more at their competitors to buy the brands we like at a price that is not over inflated to prod us into buying the Wegmans brand.. This strategy is insulting to say the least, compounded by the cheery "Did you find everything you were looking for?" scripting at check out. When we say "Unfortunately, no" they nod their head knowingly and that's the end of it..Smart management would keep a listing of what their customers are looking for.
Perhaps their strategy now is to compete with the warehouse stores rather than the higher end markets, but everyone I know is disgusted with it and more of us are driving miles out of our way to visit Trader Joe's or other specialty markets. We are eagerly awaiting Whole Foods and I can only pray that a Harris Teeter will look north and discover our community.
There are plenty of shopping opportunities--and rightfully so-- for families with children, living on tight budgets. Many of us were in their shoes at one time, but there is also a demographic in our community who want a higher end shopping experience and sadly Wegmans is losing and will continue to lose more of this market share.
Perhaps if they had bothered to survey their customers the management would have realized this. I doubt they even read these reviews, so my comments will likely be unheard and the Emperor will continue to believe his clothes are the finest...
Read moreGood meal.. I love the remodeling. Clean, nicely laid out store. Coconut donuts!!. Sponge candy. Molasses cookies. Subs! Sweet & sour chicken in the hot food bar. Please add Korean skin care product lines nationally. I just ate a sub. From this store. Superior. You cannot beat a wegmans sub. Their subs are the best in the world, bar none! Some of the workers need a refresher course on customer service, service with a smile, & having a + attitude, but most are appreciative of my spending MY $$ there. 12/31/19: the manager & then the hot food chef made me sweet & sour chicken as a special order, because the hot bar did not have it at the time. That was nice. No coconut donuts in any Wegmans now. They said Wegmans get all their fry cakes from outside their company, & the quality became poor, so they're searching for a new fry cake vendor. I was surprised that they do not make their own fry cakes OR their own cookie dough! Wtf?! 6/6/21: I wish it would stay open 24 hours again. I was lucky that at 10 pm they had 4 coconut 🥥 donuts left, because that's why I went there. Too bad no sponge 🧽 candies during the hot humid summer months. The store 🏬 needs another refresh & to be enlarged. Compared with newer Wegmans in Virginia, this Wegmans looks old, but it is still neatly arranged, clean, full of offerings, & has polite staff. 8/29/21: I had a nice time coming 🔙 to my hometown Wegmans & buying coconut 🥥 donuts & sub sandwiches. 1/9/22: Amazing rice crispie treats. 7/31/23: The sub shop's vegetables were old looking. Clean that up! The veges looked unappealing, but the boy working in the sub shop was very friendly & professional. The sub tasted superior! 😋 They need to stock Webster tee-shirts & in size XL. The store was clean. The staff were helpful. I was very happy that the store had coconut 🥥 donuts 🍩 & Archway molasses cookies 🍪 😋! 2/29/24: The store was very clean & nicely laid out. The new bakery manager young lady was...
